Synopsis (via Hallmark)
Harmony is tricked into auditioning for the Holiday Chorus – directed by an ex-boyfriend. By Christmas Eve, they could be harmonizing in the key of love. Starring: Ashleigh Murray, Luke James, Basil Wallace, Michelle Williams, and Loretta Devine.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Harmony is a busy office girl for a record company… those still exist? It doesn’t matter because Harmony is laid off before the holidays even though she is a top performer. Harmony heads home to her mother, Loretta Devine, and her congregation. They are quick to put Harmony back to work on the church choir as director. She runs into her ex-Kyle, who is carrying a bunch of pies and has also been promised the choir director position.
Kyle and Harmony are both assigned co-directors. They act annoyed to be working together, but
Back at the recording studio, that can’t possibly still exist; Michelle Williams as Melo D shows up with a Diva attitude. She says things like, “You wouldn’t know a bop from a banger.” while playing with her sunglasses. She insists the record label rehire Harmony.
Harmony and her mother reminisce about Harmony’s father. (Who recently died.)
Auditions for the choir happen, and it is great. Harmony wants to cast Kyle’s brother in a lead role, and Kyle wants to cast a hottie named Phillis.
Harmony has a slumber party with her mom and sister. It is a bittersweet moment reminiscing about their father and when Harmony and Kyle used to date. Not sure why they are watching the video.
It’s time for an obstacle, so something happens to the venue, and the chorus has to help build a new outdoor venue. Then they do some fake ass singing.
At a bar, Kyle sings a song and invites Harmony on stage to join him for some more fake singing. They slow dance together and sing in one another’s ears. Like they are in a production of Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Caroling happens, and it is as extra as you’d think. Everyone is lip-synching for their lives, and there is background music with no one playing instruments. I digress.
Harmony harmonizes with her snowglobe sadly. She is interrupted by Kyle, and he encourages Harmony to share her feelings, and he actually listens to her. It is a nice scene, and they get over the wrongs they have done to one another in the past.
Kyle and Harmony pick out Christmas Trees together and then sing some “la, la, la” riffs while decorating. Eventually, Kyle pimps Harmony into singing in front of everyone, and they think she is their Christmas star. Harmony doesn’t want to sing because she is not a singer anymore; she was rejected hardcore in New York. Kyle tries to encourage her to perform and listen to her heart.
What she needs to listen to is the TRUTH. Kyle and Harmony broke up because of her father’s interference. The snowglobe was a gift from Kyle, not her father. Harmony freaks out on Kyle and refuses to perform the solo.
The Holiday Halljuliah Chrous performs, and it goes as expected. (Except this time in robes!) Harmony ends up singing, and it sounds pretty good. Does Kelly Williams make a it a singing duet? No, she actually doesn’t. What the hell?!!?!?
Oh wait, Harmony and Melo D sig Carol of the Bell, and it is underwhelming. I wish it hadn’t happened! Can we get Kelly Rowland up in here, please?
Harmony gets her old job offered to her, and she turns the record company down to start her own career, signing and managing a record label with Michelle Williams. Kyle leaves the small town to go to the big city with Harmony. They kiss and dream big. Quite the twist!
