When talented interior designer Emily Barnes (Lisinska) is hired by a foreign embassy in D.C. to When romance novelist Diana (Ross) learns that Maple Creek, a charming pioneer village, is struggling to stay afloat, she uses her notoriety to help generate interest in the town by Successful attorney Lucy Mortimer (Coleman), along with her mother, Virginia (Kim Roberts), returns to the Winterleigh Resort to help celebrate the hotel’s final Christmas season. Once there, Lucy is reunited with the owner’s nephew and her childhood Christmas Dance partner, Barrett Brewster (Bleu). Though the resort has fallen on hard times and has stopped most holiday events, Lucy leads the charge in recreating the beloved Christmas traditions, including the popular Christmas Dance, to bring together new families and new hope to the resort. Now, Lucy must decide if she’s willing to take a risk on love and partner up once more with Barrett for what could be the last Christmas Dance. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Lucy is home for the holidays and has a great relationship with her mother. They are both big fans of Christmas and take the Christmas Wintery Jolly Trolley to a nearby cottage run by her ex-dance partner, Barrett, and his family. Barrett runs into Lucy carrying a bunch of wreaths and tells her that it is the last year for the hotel.
Lucy has given up dance in favor of the law. Barrett is on Broadway, and he teaches dance to kids. He tells Lucy she was his favorite dance partner. They waste no time getting back to it and slow dance in the hotel ballroom. Sparks fly. Lucy is nostalgic for the good old days and wants to do one last Christmas dance. (A gay couple sitting next to them butt in to say, they would love that! So random.)
Barrett has a full-on tap dance number. I’m not sure why Corbin Blu is not more prominent in the music industry or at least in musical theater.
The two friends decorate cookies and make smores. Turning them into fun events for the hotel guests to remind them of their childhoods.
Barrett starts choreographing dance routines, and they are pretty complicated. The gays at the hotel come through with solid choreography. He also puts together a more family-friendly routine for the kids and has Lucy help him show the performance.
Hank makes a special event for the children at the hotel, and they send up letters to Santa with lanterns. He asks Barrett and Lucy to read their wishes to one another aloud. They both wished for Christmas Magic. They stay up late all night talking, and they see deers together at dawn. (Which is a turn-on?) Then they finally kiss.
Lucy gets a local news show to cover the special event, but Barrett is embarrassed that the rooms aren’t full and there is no snow. He doesn’t want the resort to look like a failure. That doesn’t happen, and the news story sells out the resort. The news station also wants to broadcast the Christmas dance LIVE!
Lots of dancing happens, like maybe 5 musical numbers. I will say everyone is very talented. Good for them!
The resort is saved! Barrett decides to open a summer dance camp and Lucy is going to be a part time lawyer/Resort manager. They kiss after some serious choreography and then build a snowman as fake snow falls. They kiss one more time because, romance!
