Leah’s 30th birthday is on Christmas Eve, the same day as her brother’s wedding. Her childhood crush is back in town for the wedding and he is determined to make sure her birthday does not go by the wayside.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Little almost 10-year-old Leah is sad because her brother, Paul, and his friend Drew have turned 12 and don’t want to hang out with her anymore. Leah wants to travel the world by the time she is 30! Drew’s grandma tells her about her milestone birthday. She shows a picture of herself on a safari at 30 to inspire the young girl.
Flash to 30-year-old Leah, who has an international Christmas store. (And not a world traveler, her father had a series of health scares that prevented her from leaving.) Her brother Paul is getting married, and Leah will be a bridesmaid for her birthday, Christmas Eve. Julia is kind of a bridezilla, for a good reason! (The airline lost her wedding dress.) Julia and Leah aren’t as close as she would like. Leah is hosting Julia.
Drew, Paul’s childhood friend, is in for the wedding as the best man. He is also a world traveler and has recently broken up with his girlfriend. He runs into Leah and checks to make sure she is celebrating her 30th birthday, but Leah doesn’t want to make a big deal over it.
Paul secretly buys Julia’s childhood home. He wants to last min switch the venue as a SUPRISE?!?!? (Oh, some renovations need to be done!) Drew and Leah offer to help. (Or are guilted into helping.) Drew is also selling his nana’s house because he is traveling to South America to teach English or something.
Leah’s best friend, Marci, is the only one who knows about her childhood crush on Drew. Marci has a wife, and they are raising twins. #RepresentationMatters
Drew plans a Christmas birthday surprise for Leah. He also has a bunch of things planned leading up to that. Like a horse-drawn carriage! They have a deep conversation about Leah’s ex-boyfriend, who was also Paul’s friend, it ended badly, and Leah tells Drew that is why she won’t date another one of Paul’s friends.
The big reveal happens, including a blindfolded fiance. She loves it!
Drew sells Nan’s house, and when he tells Leah, she is disappointed he is leaving.
It is the wedding day/Leah’s birthday. They take pictures in the gazebo and have an outdoor wedding in the middle of winter. Whatever!
Drew works up the courage to tell Paul how he feels for Leah, and Paul gives enthusiastically encourages his friend to go for it, AFTER the wedding.
Julia makes a speech at her wedding, which is unusual. She isn’t a bridezilla; after all, she uses the opportunity to share her day and celebrate Leah’s 30th birthday! Leah is touched, and thanks to everyone for making her feel so special.
Drew takes Leah to the gazebo they restored together and tells him he is staying in town and is in love with her. They kiss as snowfalls. Then they dance like the “I am Sixteen going on Seventeen.” (Just kidding, they eat cake while Leah’s mom watches happily.
