Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When star student Kaley gets suspicious of a group of underachievers’ high SAT scores, she unwittingly uncovers a cheating ring and puts her life in jeopardy. Heather McComb, Francesca Xuereb star. (2022)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

We start off in a typical LA High School. (Minus the attempted murder in a locker room.)

Flash to a month earlier to a volleyball game. Star player Kaley is kind of lame, opting for studying over parties. (Her boyfriend, Jackson, and BFF Monica join her.)

Clea, Kay’s former BFF, parties on yachts while posting on social media. Millie, Olivia, and Sebastian join them and aren’t concerned about the SATs. (Because they are working with the hot test proctor to get the answer key… maybe?)

Millie and Clea get outstanding scores when the test scores come back, and Kayley is suspicious. Mille calls her hunk dad, Steve, to ask if she can throw a party to celebrate.

At the party, Clea and Millie get into an argument. When the party ends, Clea is missing with her purse and car abandoned. Kaley finds her bloody body sprawled out over a balcony ledge.

Kaley notices that 12 students got over 1400 on the SAT and is jealous because she studied hard, and the students who scored higher than her were partying. She asks Jackson to help her look into what is going on.

The Principal, Lifetime OG Boti Bliss, is thrilled with the results for her students.

Kaley visits with Clea’s mother and is surprised to see Mille and her father, Steve, are there to pay their respects. Clea’s mother shares that her daughter was stealing jewelry to take the SAT prep course. Kaley asks to have Clea’s laptop. On her way home, she gets a flat tire and is attacked by someone who is out to get the laptop from her hands.

Once Jackson hacks into the laptop, Kaley goes down a rabbit hole, searching Clea’s files, social media, and messages. Little does she know that someone is watching her via the laptop.

A person in a dark hoodie sends threatening messages and vandalizes Kaley’s car. A hot detective arrives and offers lame advice. (Get a security camera…)

The following day, the Principal searches Kaley’s locker for drugs and finds an answer key to a Chemistry test. Kaley also sees Millie with a tire iron and suspects she vandalized her car.

Next, Kaley and Jax track down the test proctor at a library and ask him if he noticed any students cheating on the SAT. He shuts down the line of questioning and is defensive AF.

Jackson is attacked in the middle of the night and put into the hospital. (But not before forwarding the data from the laptop to his email.) Kaley’s mom looks at the security camera and sees someone covering it with duct tape. She shows the hot detective who asks to share the feed.

Kaley notices that someone has hacked into her laptop and is watching her on her camera. Jackson tries to trace the hacker while he is in the hospital because he is a good boyfriend like that. He is almost murdered over the laptop.

Millie has a heart-to-heart with her dad and is feeling guilty for what she did to Clea. Millie’s dad is in on the cheating scandal he and his rich friends created the “SAT Prep course.”

Kaley and her mother go to the Principal, claiming a conflict of interest. The Principal doesn’t care because she doesn’t want to lose the record-perfect SAT scorers.

Millie confronts Kaley in the locker room after a volleyball game demanding to know why she is spreading lies about her father. Kaley says she knows what Millie is up to. Then the lights cut out, and Kaley is locked in the locker room. Someone attacks her. Monica walks in on the attack and rescues her BFF.

Kaley’s mom is thankful Monica helped her daughter and wants to call the detective. They should have because Millie’s dad shows up dressed as a pizza guy with a gun.

Steve admits to killing Clea because she was going to talk about the cheating ring. He paid off the proctor to manipulate the test and killed him when he was going to talk. Kaley’s mom grabs his gun while he talks, and Kaley makes a run for it.

Kaley knocks out Steve just as the hot detective arrives. He saw the attack on the security cameras. (So I guess it was a good recommendation.)

Jackson survives and graduates with Kaley and Monica. The cheating students all have to go to summer school. (Something I still have nightmares about.)
