Recap/Wine Thoughts
Cindy is having a bad day; she is let go from her job as an IT manager because she was off for months due to back surgery. When she tells her boyfriend, Rob, he breaks up with her for a new woman named Melanie.
Cindy tries to keep up a happy facade for her athlete daughter, Dylan. That is until she crashes her car because she has been abusing painkillers. Cindy is charged with reckless driving and injuring a minor. Dylan is left to fend for herself while her mother is in rehab for three months.
Dylan isn’t worried about her mom; she just wants a bomb sweet sixteen party. She moves in with her Aunt and Uncle. Her Aunt Shannon is thrilled to throw her niece a sweet sixteen party.
At her new school, Dylan meets a nice girl (maybe) named Julia. Tiffany is a popular girl who definitely isn’t nice and possessive of her boyfriend, Jonah. He is on the track team and introduces Dylan to the hot coach.
Tiffany is super critical of everyone, including her mother. She gets some poison ivy and rubs it all over Dylan’s new track uniform, causing her to break into a nasty rash. (It looks excruciating. YIKES!) Jonah isn’t impressed with his girlfriend’s behavior, but he doesn’t break up with her.
Dylan is assigned to be Jonah’s tutor because he is a dumb jock stereotype. Tiffany is PISSED! She stalks them and looks into the window while they “study.”
Aunt Shannon books the venue for Dylan’s sweet sixteen. It is the same place and date that Tiffany wanted.
Cindy is released from rehab for good behavior and watches her daughter’s first track meet. Tiffany learned about Cindy’s stint in rehab and spikes her lemonade. Cindy stumbles around while Tiffany records her. Then she pretends to help Cindy and slams Cindy into a wall knocking her unconscious. Dylan and Aunt Shannon are disappointed in Cindy’s apparent relapse.
Jonah has a party and invites Dylan. Tiffany is there and really wants to play Truth or Dare. She asks Dylan if she is trying to steal her man and ruin her sweet sixteen. The outburst causes Jonah to break up with Tiffany, finally.
After a bike oil incident, Jonah invites Dylan into his bedroom and gives her one of his shirts. They kiss after he asks her to take him as his date to her sweet sixteen party.
Tiffany’s teacher tells her that he thinks she needs to talk to a guidance counselor. It is a big mistake because she pushes him down the stairs. He dies, and no one really cares. The hot coach takes over for his class.
Rumors start circulating that Dylan called and told on the track team for partying. She is convinced that Tiffany is behind it and asks her mom to do some IT hacking into Tiffany’s background. Cindy finds proof that Tiffany made the call to the school.
Realizing that she isn’t going to get the venue or date she wanted for her sweet sixteen, Tiffany dumps gasoline everywhere and sets the place on fire. Tiffany’s friend Maya feels guilty for the crime and cracks under pressure. Julia overhears them talking in the bathroom and calls Dylan. They plot to get Maya to tell the truth.
It is the night of the party, and Dylan shows Maya evidence that she knows about the fire. Maya tells Dylan everything, and she records the conversation. The police interrupt Tiffany’s party and arrest her.
Dylan ends up having a sweet sixteen party at her Aunt’s house. Cindy and Jonah are there, and so is her NEW CAR. Everyone is happy, even the cicadas.
Side Note
Minority Report: Dylan, Uncle Scott, Coach, Natalie,
This movie should have been called cicadas because any outdoor scene is full of buzzing sounds.
Also Known as: Psycho Sweet Sixteen
