Synopsis (via Lifetime)
When Lori learns her daughter, Mia, has entered a throuple, her concern turns to fear when one member of the relationship is found dead. When Mia becomes the prime suspect, Lori must uncover the truth about what happened before it’s too late.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with someone packing their bags and wiping down a potential crime scene. There is someone dead in the bed.
One month earlier, redheaded. Lawyer/widowed mother Lori is scolding some guy in the courtroom, but she doesn’t have the same effect on her daughter Mia, who is too busy to talk on the phone.
Mia is secretly dating a new guy named Ethan (Ty Trumbo), and he is hot. Mia won’t even tell her mom his name. Lori is trying to date, too. It has been three years since her husband passed away.
While getting coffee, Lori thinks she sees the guy Mia is dating with another woman and tries to tell her daughter via text, but thinks better of it. Dana, Lori’s co-worker, tells her to MIND HER BUSINESS. (Which Lori doesn’t do.)
Lori goes to surprise her daughter and sees Brie, the woman who was making out with Mia’s mysterious boyfriend. Lori doesn’t know her daughter is in a throuple. She does now! Lori and Dana look up what a throuple is and how it is cool with younger generations. Three people together are three times the love.
Ethan makes an unplanned visit to Lori’s house and tells her that he just wants them all to get along. Then they go to the same restaurant for a date, and Lori decides to leave with her date, because she is so embarrassed.
Mia shows up to brunch with bruises on her wrists and acts meek. Lori conducts a background investigation and discovers that Ethan, unsurprisingly, has a sordid past. Which makes sense, because he breaks into Lori’s house and leaves a note that reads “Let’s be friends.”
Since she is a lawyer with connections, Lori gets photos of Ethan up to no good. When Lori tries to warn her daughter, Ethan and Brie have moved into her apartment. Ethan makes Lori a vodka soda and tells her that he wants to please her, so he can keep dating her daughter. Lori slaps him across the face for talking fresh to her.
Brie meets up with Lori because she has seen a dark side of Ethan.
THEN Mia shows up covered in blood. Lori helps her daughter cover up what happened, but Mia doesn’t really remember. She just remembers fighting with Ethan and hitting her head, but Ethan is dead upstairs. Lori is a DA and comes up with an alibi, cleans the murder weapon, and even disposes of the body.
All her plotting doesn’t keep Mia out of jail. Brie called the police when she found the body and suspected Lori of killing Ethan. Someone breaks into Lori’s house AGAIN and leaves a note that says “Turn Yourself In?”
OMG, Dana is strangled by someone in the backseat of her car for no reason, just because she is the BFF. (Check your backseat people!!!) Ben, Lori’s work boyfriend, finds a glove in the car and runs some tests. Dana sent Lori an email with someone named Jamie Daniels, the daughter of someone Lori prosecuted.
Lori finds Ben knocked unconscious and Mia tied up in her room. Brie, Frank Daniels’s daughter, orchestrated this whole thing as an act of revenge. The movie spends a lot of time recapping a pretty obvious plot twist, just in case you missed it. Brie swings a bat, but misses Lori. Lori rushes to untie Mia and hides her in a closet. The mother-daughter duo eventually takes out Bri.
One year later, Lori is up for DA and engaged to Ben. Mia is also dating, but Lori minds her own business this time.

This was another of the many recent Lifetime movies that loves dragging a whodunnit mystery. When it’s so painfully obvious who the villain is. And when the reveal finally came, I couldn’t have cared less. That was the same issue with last Friday’s movie. I’d say the only good thing this movie had going for it was the strangled from the backseat of car scene. Those are my favorite types of murder scenes and we were definitely long overdue for one.
