Synopsis (via Hallmark Channel)
An ambitious hotel executive is sent to evaluate a struggling, snowy family ski lodge, where Christmas magic and the charming co-owner force her to choose between her career and love
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Marcus Rosner skis on the slopes with a Walkman from the 90s. He doesn’t do new technology, like email… He has an adorable daughter and runs the ski lodge wth his father.
Cassidy works at a fancy resort that runs on efficiency. Cassidy is not up for an executive position because she is too good at her current role. Her mother is the boss, so it is kind of rude that she isn’t getting some neop perks. She decides to go to check on a property for the snow cabins they are leasing, blah blah blah, it’s Marcus Rosner’s family business!
Cassidy arrives and overhears that the family is struggling to make ends meet, and her hospitality expertise MIGHT come in handy. She bonds with Marcus Rosner over comfy beds, which I would like to do myself. She helps him digitize his analog life because it will make Christmasfest run much more smoothly. Marcus Rosner is resistant to change, but agrees to the help.
Marcus Rosner and Cassidy set up for the festival, and she gets a great ball of Christmas lights, and they work to untangle romantically. They talk about Cassidy’s promotion, and he encourages her to go for it because she has tenacity. (Which is the compliment she was looking for! Me? Just call me pretty, Marcus Rosner.)
Cassidy tells a story about breaking her tailbone while skiing and has no interest in skiing after having to sit on an inflatable donut in high school for months! It inspires Marcus Rosner to add tubing to the big holiday event. Cassidy likes tubing a lot more than skiing, but maybe it is because she is doing it with Marcus Rosner.
CUE A MONTAGE
Just as things are looking up, Cassidy’s mother, Joanne, shows up and might be having an affair with Sam, Marcus’ stepfather. Joanne is worried that her daughter is too personally invested in the family and not focused on selling the lodge.
Christmas fest starts early because Cassidy double-schedules herself with her modern technology of scheduled social media posts. Marcus Rosner plays some smooth jazz for Cassidy on his Walkman, and they slow dance, even though she is the only one wearing headphones. (Backward, mind you. A child of the 80s, she is not.)
Meanwhile, Joanne and Sam are talking about marriage. That escalated quickly.
Cindy Busby shows up at the town hall and makes a speech about Christmas Wish Lanterns, helping them raise money for the food bank. It was all organized by Lily, who used analog AND modern tech to spread the word. They light the lanterns, and this interaction happens.
Cassidy: I’ve never seen anything more beautiful in my life…
Marcus (Looking at her) … I have….
They almost kiss but are interrupted, per usual.
Just as Cassidy is on her way off to a tropical vacation with her mother, the power goes out. Cassidy wants to stay and help. She moves her trip, and Marcus is thankful they have a printed backup.
Things run smoothly until the Mayor shows up talking about an acquisition proposal that Cassidy wrote and breaks the news to Marcus Rosner and his stepdad without them having been looped in. It is not a good look.
Cassidy cries to her mother that she has ruined the relationship. Her mother gives her a pep talk and is so impressed with her daughter that she gives her the promotion.
To stop Marcus from making a bad deal with a big-time investor named Dave, Cassidy hops on some skis with Lilly to stop him. Cassidy doesn’t even learn “pizza” or “French fry”, so she is probably going to die. Cassidy rushes down the mountain, screaming at Marcus Rosner, who can’t hear her with his headphones on. She literally runs into him to stop him from agreeing to anything.
Cassidy makes the big pitch, and Marcus Rosner goes for it! Yay! She decides to stay in town and kiss Marcus Rosner, which is fair.
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
CGI snow will never be close to the real thing.
The hot cocoa was not staying hot in that uninsulated glass container. Be for real.
Skywalker Hughes is great.
