Synopsis (via Hallmark)
Claire is an MI5 agent who goes undercover as the royal nanny. She must overcome the challenges of her assignment, like resisting the charms of Prince Colin, while keeping the family safe at Christmas.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Three weeks before Christmas, Wallace and Claire walk through a Christmas market and are on a spy mission. (Wait, SPY MISSION??!?!?) They are intercepting a package wrapped in Christmas wrapping. It contains a teddy bear with a microdot that compromises the royal palace and family. (Including Princess Rose, her family, and her younger hunky brother Prince Colin.) The secret service assigns Claire and Wallace to infiltrate the castle as undercover servants. Claire will be the nanny even though she has no experience with children, which is kind of sexist! (Wallace has kids for crying out loud!)
Mrs. Lansbury (AKA Scary Poppins) will be prepping Claire for the role and is horrified at her ineptitude. They do combat training with an umbrella. (I love Scary Poppins!) Her advice is to let common sense be her guide, which is good advice for anything, really.
Claire meets the children, Robert and Elle. A Staff member named Olivia shows Claire to her beautiful room and warns her that the kids are mischievous. Claire doesn’t fall for their tricks and properly sweeps the room. The kids are disappointed. Prince Colin helps them think of more tricks, but Claire catches him too. She doesn’t tell Princess Rose about the misbehavior and says the kids are well-behaved.
The security agents track the bad girl who keeps getting away in sexy black outfits. When she gets too close to the royal family, Claire is assigned to keep an eye on Prince Colin as well. Could he be in on the operation?
Claire really starts bonding with the children and even gets close to Prince Colin. With a night off, the two go for a walk in the gardens and Claire shares about her orphan childhood. They almost kiss but are interrupted by an urgent royal matter.
Amanda Young, who works on Colin’s charity, is a suspect. Prince Colin can’t imagine his co-worker would be trying to put the family in danger.
Princess Rose doesn’t want to cancel any Christmas events and keep things as normal as she can. Claire is invited as a guest to keep an eye on things. Olivia is also keeping an eye on Claire; she lurks in the shadows and texts someone mysteriously.
Claire joins Prince Colin on a gift-giving mission at the local orphanage, the one she lived in as a child. The Royal Children are almost kidnapped as they leave, but Claire protects them with her umbrella. Prince Colin is kidnapped! Claire promises Princess Rose that she will save the prince.
The security office gets Colin’s phone in the mail, and he calls himself with the kidnapper’s list of demands.
Claire interrogates Olivia, and she is not involved in the kidnapping but has sold gossip to the tabloids! Olivia is terminated from her job.
Claire is also suspended from the agency and meets with Mrs. Lansbury, who has more information than the security service. She fills Claire in, and they head to rescue Prince Colin with umbrellas. Claire gets the bad guys with some marbles and hands them to the police. Prince Colin is impressed and kind of turned on.
Prince Colin and Clare make out by the Christmas tree! Happy Christmas!
Side Note
I liked the light genre shift! I wish the director would have had a bit more fun with some spy movie tropes.
