Synopsis (via Hallmark)

RJ is a new angel, who is given the chance to address his one regret, that he didn’t help his sisters reconcile while he was still alive. Returning to earth as a stranger, he gets each of them to revive the Holiday Stocking, their parent’s old tradition to encourage charity at Christmas.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with a young family celebrating their first Christmas without their father. Mom makes a game for the kids (Robert, Marlow, and Dani), including finding riddles in stockings. Whoever solves the mystery gets to pick a good deed to do for Christmas.

Robert is a grown-up now and in training to be an angel. Before he ascends to heaven, he wants to mend the relationships with his younger sisters, who are estranged and didn’t speak at his funeral. His supervisor, Sarah, checks with GOD and gives him 12 days to repair the relationship. Sarah turns Robert into RJ and has to wear a snowflake pin to be seen by humans. (He also gets a flip phone!)

Dani Holiday lives in Chicago and has expensive taste. She owns an advertising firm and gets ready for a Christmas party. RJ rings her doorbell, gives her a card, and asks her to meet him the following day.

Marlow runs the family bakery and is married with a daughter; she also gets a note. It tells her to meet RJ at the Christmas market. Marlow blows off the meeting altogether, and Dani isn’t into charity work.

Dani doesn’t meet with RJ until she learns Charity’s work is good for the optics of her business. (It doesn’t hurt that the man she is partnered with is hot.) Marlow also isn’t interested, but when she realizes that her daughter is too selfish, she also decides to do the Christmas Stocking tradition. Both sisters discover that the tradition should have never stopped. The only problem is they don’t want to continue the tradition together!

Dani asks Marlow if they can start over because family is important at the end of the day. He gives them a clue, and the sisters don’t know the answer. They walk through the Christmas market and run into RJ.

The sisters plan to look into RJ’s past because they want to know who he is. They ask his last name, and he tells them it is RJ Angel.

Marlow goes on a date with her husband for a long overdue night out on the town. At the same time, Dani watches the bakery, it is a moment of selflessness between the sisters, but they are back fighting.

RJ wants his sisters to know he loves them and gives them an envelope with a polaroid photo of him to invigorate them, sisters.

We finally see something wintry when the sisters go sledding.

Dani goes on Wake Up Chicago to talk about the holiday stocking tradition, and her family proudly watches on. On air, Dani steps down from her company to reconnect with her sister and give back. (She also mentions the bakery, Marlow is thrilled!)

RJ gifts the sisters a framed family photo and a box of items from their childhood. They take a picture of him with the polaroid camera and invite him to the family Christmas. RJ declines and tears up. He hugs them both before he leaves and wishes he had done it more while alive.

As he walks out the door, both sisters see Robert when his snowflake pin falls off. They chase after him, but he is gone. The sisters sing Christmas songs together and look up at the sky! It begins to softly snow.

Side Note

Minority Report: The cast features mostly Black actors

Somehow this is the first Mahogany Hallmark Christmas movie. Seems like a no-brainer.
