Synopsis (via Hallmark)
Ryan is an elementary school teacher who learns that he is colorblind. Michelle, an optometrist and mother of one of his students, helps bring color into his life in time for the holidays.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Michelle is an optometrist who checks the school staff and kids’ eyes annually. She remembers everyone’s prescription; Michelle is that good. (Do schools give free eye exams? They totally should.)
Ryan takes his 4th-grade class for their turn, and he waits for them to be done. Michelle checks with Ryan to see if she wants him to take an eye exam. (Oh, she also is CLEAR to let him know that she is widowed and single.) He can see fine, but he is color-blind.
Michelle is raising her daughter, Bailey, solo after breaking up with her boyfriend, Mark. (He is trying to get back with her and is an obnoxious jerk) She wants to meet someone the old-fashioned way and hates the apps.
The next day, Michelle comes into class to watch her daughter do a report on colors. She is dragging Ryan to hell because he can’t see colors. He doesn’t even allow Christmas decorations in the classroom because he thinks they are distracting.
Chronic Bachelor, Ryan eats pasta with marinara while his friend Shawn bugs him for being so handsome and single. He keeps his colorblindness a total secret and is very ashamed. (Do people who are color blind really see in black and white?)
Michelle doesn’t stop testing Ryan to prove that he is color blind. She asks him to give her some colored beads for a project, and he gives her the totally wrong colors. It is played for sympathy but comes off as RUDE AF! (Michelle wants to put him in a trial for colorblindness.) She calls Ryan and tries to get him into the trial, and when he doesn’t answer, she submits him anyway.
Ryan gets into the trial, and Michelle shows him the color-changing glasses. He gets frustrated with Michelle because he is fine with his life being Black and White. Michelle is sorry she can’t change his mind. (Her daughter Bailey (who also doesn’t mind her own business!) does change his mind by telling him that the glasses are science.
Ryan puts on the glasses and is moved to tears. Michelle hugs him and welcomes him to a whole new world. Michelle takes him around the town to see the sunset, Christmas trees, and lots of other stuff. They hold hands and are falling in love?! She literally tells him that it is the most “colorful time of the year.”
Bailey asks her mother if she will keep dating Mr. Tanner. Michelle says she is keeping the relationship professional until Bailey reminds her that he won’t be her teacher after Christmas because they switch classes.
Mark returns to the picture and wants to go to Bailey’s recital. Michelle tells him not to come, but he comes anyway, giving Ryan the wrong idea. Michelle tells Mark that she will get back with him because he sucks! Michelle goes to talk to Ryan and sees him kissing the basketball coach on the cheek and also get the wrong idea.
The whole thing is cleared up by Michelle’s sister, who owns the flower shop. She encourages Ryan to send a heart bouquet to Michelle with all his favorite colors. (oh wait, they are just white and red.) Ryan tells Michelle how he feels about her and asks her out on a date.
He takes her to his apartment, not like that, and shows her that he decorated his house for Christmas. They trim the tree and drink wine together. They kiss, but before they do, Ryan takes off the glasses and tells her she is beautiful. (But honestly, who isn’t in Black and White!)
Michelle invites him to spend Christmas morning at her place with Bailey. The kid tells them that her Christmas wish came true. For her mom to meet a man who treats her as well as her dad did.
