Caught in a blizzard on Christmas Eve, estranged mother and daughter Journee (Naughton) and Nia (Turner) are forced to take refuge inside a church where a handful of also-trapped parishioners are reeling from the cancellation of their annual holiday concert. The spirit of the season takes hold as Journee and Nia weather the wintry storm together with the other churchgoers, including handsome youth pastor Adam (James) and a heavenly music teacher (Franklin), who motivate the mother and daughter to reconcile their differences through music, faith, and love. With the help from this unlikely yet spirited group of strangers, Journee and Nia band together to help the church salvage not only their holiday traditions, but also their show-stopping Christmas day performance, despite the raging storm outside.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Nia and her mother, Journee, drive through a snowstorm at Christmas time. Journee sings along with a Christmas pop song by famous singer Simone Adam.
The mother-daughter duo pulls off the road and stops at a church. They are welcomed by an awkward Pastor Adam. They meet Brother Booker and Sister Noelle. They cook up in the kitchen and sing really well. Nia makes friends with the youth program. They all sing and dance too. It’s like Church Glee.
Everyone is trapped in the church during the storm, and it seems like a genuine place for the community. Journee tells the churchgoers that her husband passed away, giving a hint to Pastor Adam, OK! Pastor Adam liked Journee in high school, but Journee doesn’t even remember him. (She certainly will after seeing him change his shirt in his office.)
Simone starts putting the moves on Pastor Adam and Journee becomes jealous. Simone Adam is brought into the church, and everyone is thrilled. They take pictures of her, and seriously, everyone has no chill. She decides to help the Glee club work on their song and dance.
Nia walks in on her mother and Pastor Adam consoling and yells at her mother for choosing someone else AGAIN. Nia runs off and sings. She hasn’t sung since her dad died and sings with a ghost, apparently. Nia opens up to a homeless man named Marcus and encourages him to reach out to his family to let them know he is okay.
You would never know if it is a blizzard outside in this church because everyone eats a candlelight dinner.
The following day, everyone wakes up and is still trapped in the church. They decide to put on a Christmas show! (And live to stream it for donations.)Simone Adam posts on her social media about the Livestream.
The show has a crazy production value for being put on at the last min, but who cares it is Kirk Franklin Christmas. It is a huge success!
Marcus’s family comes, and they take him home. Mia and Journee plan a proper vacation instead of getting snowbound. The End!
