Carly heads to a small town to lead a church choir at Christmastime, facing her first holiday season without her mother. While there, she connects with a man back in town after serving in the Army.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Carly is a music teacher with bangs! She plays the guitar and brings it with her to a holiday job in a small town. Carly is helping a choir with their Christmas to cover up some inner sadness.
Mattthew is a sexy soldier who likes cinnamon coffee. He is going to the same small town. He sits behind Carly and finds her guitar pick that reads Joy. Matthew is happy to be home and plans on joining the volunteer fighter.
Carly meets Pastor John and his wife, Susan. They bring a Chicken Pot Pie! Apparently, Carly only has one guitar pick and is horrified when she sees the choir is terrible. Pastor John met his wife Susan in the choir and wants to restore the group to its former glory.
Matthew goes to the same church and bumps into Carly in the pews. Later, she runs into him again while he is singing, and she says he has a lovely voice. Matthew doesn’t want to join, but he helps her load up and decorate her Christmas tree.
We meet the people in the choir, and they know they are bad. They magically get better after Carly tells them to envision someone they love other than Jesus. Having Matthew as the tenor really rounds out the sound.
Carly is inspired after going shopping for Christmas albums with Matthew. She dances around to “It’s Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas.” and adds it to the set list for the Christmas show.
Later, Carly and Matthew chat at the Christmas dance. They look at the stars, and Carly asks if he believes in fate. She worries because things are going rocky in her life and hopes it gets better. Matthew feels the same way because his best friend from home is moving away just as he is getting back.
Caroling happens, and, you know, I didn’t see it coming!
Jenny takes private lessons with Riley, Matthew’s sister. She has landed the big solo but needs to… SING OUT LOUSIE! Matthew invites Carly to join him and his family for wreath making. Then he asks Carly to sing, and she shows him a song she has been working on for the choir. It’s “Time for Me to Come Home .” He is impressed, and Carly adds it to the program.
They make some insane-looking milkshakes to celebrate their successful Christmas show lineup.
Carly talks to Pastor John and cries about losing her parents. It is her first Christmas without her family. He tells her that her memory is alive in their heart.
Matthew gives Carly the guitar pick he found on the bus, and Carly is surprised at the coincidence. He asks Carly if she will stay in town after the holidays, but she isn’t sure.
Carly looks at an old photo and becomes upset when she learns she is related to the pastor’s wife. After a mini-breakdown, Carly tells them she wishes they would have told her the truth, but she doesn’t regret coming.
It is the night of the performance, and Matthew clarifies that he is SINGLE, okay! Carly tells him that she might be staying in town now since he has surprised relatives there.
The choir performance is tame AND short! (Thankfully!)
Matthew and Carly laugh about all the little things that brought them together, and they kiss at midnight on Christmas. Merry Christmas!
