Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with photos from the past two movies, and I sure don’t remember a thing! Kendra and Ben are married jet-setters in town for Ben’s son’s school play. (They have an estranged relationship.) Kendra feels like she is a lousy stepmother and doesn’t know how to co-parent or what role she plays in this family. Ben promises her that they can move back to Chicago once Miles graduates high school.
Kendra tries to bond with Miles and almost serves him TREE NUTS, which he is allergic to. She goes for a jog and meets a professor who offers her a job teaching photography at the local university. Kendra doesn’t have time for that because Ben plans a surprise getaway to a cabin. Is it there that he proposes because they aren’t already married? WTF?

Connie sees the ring and says she knows Ben is a fan of recycling but didn’t know it applied to Jewlrey. (DAMN!) Ben’s mother is also shady and offers to plan the wedding because Kendra won’t plan it in a classy enough way for her taste. The new mother-in-law starts meddling immediately and books a wedding venue three months away.
To add to the stress of planning a wedding, Kendra and Ben struggle to have a baby. (Which seems like it might not be the best timing.) Kendra meets with a fertility specialist alone. Ben also helps his depressed brother, who is going through a divorce.
Kendra and Ben start fighting because she feels like she is giving 100%. She also gets jealous when she sees Ben and Connie hugging. Ben also keeps using excluding language, telling Kendra that she is not Miles’s mother and excluding Kendra from family talks.

Kendra goes to Chicago solo and restarts her friendship with Terri because she has cancer. (This movie is ALL over the place.) Kendra helps care for Terri and her son Tyler and gives Ben time to think about things.
Ben and Kendra make up. It quickly goes south when Kendra sees a bank notification on Ben’s phone for $10,000. She still feels like she is in the dark, and Ben is keeping things for her. Ben’s brother attempts to kill himself at the rehearsal dinner, and Kendra somehow STILL manages to make it all about her!?!??!? (She can’t marry a stranger.)

Ben goes to a support group for mental health after the stress of everything builds up to a point where he can’t cope alone. (And he doesn’t have to!) This might be the one worthwhile scene in the movie.
THEN TERRI DIES?!?!?! COME ON MOVIE!!!!! GIVE US A BREAK.

Kendra decides to stay in town and opens a photography studio. She will help look after Terri’s son Tyler, and she goes through with the wedding.
THE END!
Stray Thoughts
The third installment of Mary J. Blige’s movies is based on her songs for Lifetime. The previous two came out in 2023, and this final chapter seemed delayed and unceremonious.
