Synopsis (via Lifetime)

After the shocking murder of her mother, a girl helps a police detective by searching her home for clues that they hope will lead to the perpetrator.

Thoughts

The movie begins with a woman getting shot in the face multiple time in broad daylight. YIKES!

Cut to some teenagers, Marissa and Alex, on their way to a cop car. (Marissa’s dad is the Sheriff.) Alex and her boyfriend has an awkward conversation about last night. (They had sex for the first time.) Alex not only has open communiction with her boyfriend, she also shares with her mother about losing her virginity.

Alex is pulled from class by the Sheriff due to “an accident at the pet store.” Alex’s mother is the owner of the shore and is the woman who was shot. Alex runs into the crime scene and uncovers the body to confirm that it is her mother. A sexy detective screams at the police officers to protect the crime scene. New reporters are there and have questions for the father, who is MIA and a suspect.

Nick, the father, is located and brought in to identify the body and for some questioning. He has an alibi and corporates with detectives. Nick wants to get home to his kids. (Alex and her two younger siblings.)

Back at the crime scene, Alex cries while caressing the bloodstained ground. Then she sees a tribute wall with flowers and balloons for her mother. She cries in her fathers arms.

At the funeral for her mother, Alex is approached by the Sexy Detective. He gives her his card and wants to question her. (Which seems like he would need parent permission.) Alex is too busy winning track meets and taking over motherly duties to talk to the police. She cooks dinner for the family and scolds Nick for buying her brother a dirt bike. Nick is quick to get rid of the mother’s things and won’t even let Alex keep a sweater. This motivates Alex to go to the police station to see what is going on with her mother’s case. Sexy Detective tells her that they are closing the case.

Alex blows off her boyfriend and BFF (who are not hooking up behind her back.) to meet with Sexy Detective and agrees to help him solve the case on the DL??? He tells her not to mention that she is working with him. When she learns that her father is still a suspect, Alex almost quits. Sexy Detective shows her evididence that Nick was having an affair and she changes her mind.

Nick, must know that she is on to him and buys Alex a car. It doesn’t work and Alex rummages through the house for clues to solve her mother’s murder. Alex brings what she finds to the Sexy Detective and he tells her about his sister who was also murdered. The case was never solved.

On Christmas, randomly, Alex follows her father to a dive bar. Nick picks up a girl in a santa hat, drives her to a abandoned parking lot, and gets a BJ. Alex is disguested and hurries home so she isn’t compromised as a spy. Nick checks her car and sees the engine was warm. He knows she is watching him. Alex confronts her father about the affair and Nick promises that he relationship is over. Alex knows that he is lying.

The pressure is on for Alex to find the murder weapon. She looks through old boxes in the garage and finds a love letter and marriage certificate, not from Nick, from some guy named Frank. She tracks down Frank and learns that he is her father. Then she finds the gun in pet supplies in the garage. She calls the Sexy Detective and puts the murder weapon back so he can discover it. Then he sends her back into the house to get the weapon and she is caught by Nick.

Nick knows she has the murder weapon and demands that she give him the gun. Alex tells him that he is not her father. Nick grabs Alex and throws her around violently while telling her that she is trying to ruin his family just like her mother. (Who wanted to file for divorce.) He chokes Alex, but she is saved by Sexy Detective. Nick is taken away and thrown in jail for solicitation of murder.

Sexy Detective is put on trial for endangering a minor. Alex testifies on his behalf and thanks him for changing her life. He is charged with the crime.

Alex does a voice over summery and leads you to believe this is a true story.. It is not.
