Synopsis (via Lifetime)

A dark family secret comes to light when a woman finds a bone marrow donor A teenage girl falls madly in love with someone claiming to be a college student, whom she meets on a social networking website, and keeps her internet romance a secret from her mother.

Thoughts

Two teenage girls, Cami and Lindsay, plot on how to seduce a guy online. (Like a desktop computer via email online. I remember the days. ) They giggle and scream the whole time. Their nerdfest is interrupted by Tori (Lifetime OG, Alexandra Paul.) The guy on the other end of the email is a convict named Jake, who has been having his friend Dewayne help him too. No one is who they appear online.

Jake gets out of prison with nowhere to go; not even his family will take him in. He calls Cami collect (Which isn’t possible) from prison, and she thinks he is calling from a party. He pretends he is a college student and busy with classes.

Tori seems to continually be drinking wine with her “best friend,” Kendra. She takes breaks from guzzling wine to yell at Cami about her life choices. What will she do when she finds out Cami is emailing a prisoner.

Cami and Jake meet up at a coffee shop for their first date once he is out of prison. The date is awkward, and Cami talks about wanting to be a veterinarian because she is a teenager. Later at a park, Cami opens up about her parent’s divorce and her father’s recent death on a motorcycle. Jake’s father died too, and they bond over that. Then they make out because dead fathers are an aphrodisiac?

Jake buys Cami a phone after Tori takes Cami’s cell away for being out too late. Jake makes the extra money by doing illegal favors for his friend, Edie. He wants to get his life on the straight and narrow but realizes he is breaking the law again when Cami tells him she is only 17. Jake decides to tells Cami that he was in prison and his vindictive ex-girlfriend set him up. Cami is understanding, but when she tells Lindsay, Lindsays says Cami is crazy.

Tori and Kendra continue to drink wine and speculate about where Cami is all the time. Cami is busy getting it on with Jake. When Tori finds out, the mother and daughter argue that only a Lifetime mother daughter can. Explosive accusations followed by heartwarming understanding. Cami tells Tori everything about Jake, except the whole jail thing.

Cami goes out for burgers with Jake and his friends and runs into Kendra. Kendra is suspicious of Jake and his friends but promises not to tell Tori. Instead, she looks up Jake online and finds out about his criminal past. Kendra prints them out and shows Tori, which is so 2010. They realize that Cami is lying. Tori is out of her mind and goes to the police and tells them to arrest Jake. Then she looks through police files.

Jakes’s past catches up with him, and his place gets robbed. Dewayne is knocked unconscious and placed in the hospital. (He later dies.) Cami witnesses the attack and is shaken. However, she comforts Jake and decides to skip her first year of school and move in with him. (Because of parole.)

Jake and his friend Edgar find the man who killed Dewayne and rough him up. Unfortunately, things get out of hand, and Jake shoots the guy dead. Cami witnesses the murder. Jake tries to calm Cami down by patting her on the head. Then they sneak out of Edgar’s house to get away to their new life together. They drive up to a cabin.

Tori finds Jake’s sister and asks her questions about Jake and Cami. The sister tells her about the cabin, and Tori rushes to save her daughter. Cami and Jake make promises to one another before Tori arrives.

Just as Jake is about to leave the cabin, Edgar shows up with a gun. He is pissed that Jake skipped out on him and left him to be charged with the murder. Edgar wants to kill Cami because she is a witness. Edgar shoots Tori, and it is truly shocking.

Jake and Eddie struggle over the gun. It goes off, and Edgar is shot too. Cami calls 911 to get help to the cabin. Jake is arrested and put back in jail.

In Jail, Cami visits Jake to say goodbye before going to college in NYC.  Then she has some cake with her mother and Kendra. Who are definitely not lesbian lovers, but they should be.
