Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Hayley Udall tries to make ends meet for herself and her 14-year-old daughter while providing alimony for a dangerous ex-husband. She wishes her problems with her ex could go away, and upon venting her frustrations one night, finds herself tangled up in a pact with two people (Melanie and Kevin) to “eliminate” each other’s problems. It seemed like innocent wishful thinking, but as people end up dead–including Hayley’s ex-husband–Hayley is trapped. She tries to clear her name but the police are eyeing her for her ex-husband’s death as well as others. Then Melanie abducts Hayley’s daughter as leverage to force Hayley to follow through and kill one last person. With the police trying to find the truth, Hayley must hurry to save her daughter and find a way to avoid murder. Emily Rose, Brian Krause, Melanie Stone star. (2017)
Thoughts
The movie begins at a casino and a man crying at a poker table. Hayley wakes up from a call from the man whose name is Jerry. He is looking for money from his alimony. (Yup, she is paying him alimony, working two jobs, and raising their daughter.)
Cut to Melanie, who is working with an overbearing and verbally abusive producer… who is also her Aunt Lisa.
Finally, there is Kevin, who is sleeping with his boss, Sarah.
While out on a rideshare job, Hayley avoids calls from Jerry. She picks up Melanie and Kevin, who are going out for drinks. On the drive, Kevin and Melanie talk about their problems as Jerry continues to call. Hayley pulls over to take a call from Jerry with them in the car. Kevin and Melanie are concerned for their driver and invite her to drinks and promise to tip her big for going out with them.
At the bar, Kevin complains about his boss and Hayley shares about her divorce. Melanie says his boss should just drop dead. They joke about “taking” care of one another’s problems. Melanie is 100% serious and makes Hayley uncomfortable, so she leaves with Kevin. Kevin tells Hayley that Melanie gets passionate about things and will forget about it in the morning. He also assures her that he is not dating Melanie. Kevin asks Hayley out on a date and then cancels the night of the date.
While working in her flower shop the next day, a detective comes by and asks her a few questions. Then he leaves. Hayley is spooked and calls Kevin to make sure he is okay. Then she does some online research and learns about Sarah Olsen. (Kevin’s boss was murdered.) So the killing pact has started. She tries to call Jerry and warn him that he might be in danger, but he calls her “stupid” and hangs up on her.
At the casino, Jerry drunkenly leaves in his wheelchair and heads to his car. Kevin sneaks up behind him and stabs Jerry with a knife leaving him in the alley to die after hesitantly stabbing him some more. Hayley rushes to stop the killing, but Jerry told her he was at physical therapy. She is too late.
The hot detective is back to inform Hayley that Jerry has been murdered. They show her footage from the security footage, and she is shocked to learn that Jerry was faking a disability.
Hayley meets Kevin at a motel. He is bloody and crying in the shower holding the knife. He tells Hayley that he had to do it because Melanie killed Sarah as part of the killing pact. She tells him that they need to go to the police. Kevin freaks out and asks for time alone. He kills himself.
Melanie shows up with a gun and forces Hayley to kill her aunt with a syringe. Melanie takes her to the theater and walks her through how the murder will go. Hayley reluctantly agrees to do it as long as Melanie leaves her and her family alone forever.
Hayley tries to go for the kill but wakes up Aunt Lisa in the process, and Aunt Lisa is a total bitch. Melanie is angry when she finds out about the botched hit. She throws Hayley into a bathroom mirror, knocking her unconscious, and goes after Hayley’s daughter Jamie. Melanie kidnaps Jamie and holds her hostage until the murder is complete.
Detective hot guy questions Hayley one more time and tells her that he thinks she is responsible for the murders. He follows her as she goes to the theater again to finish the job.
Inside the theater, Hayler goes to Aunt Lisa’s office and warns her that her niece is trying to kill her. Melanie bursts in with a gun and shoots her aunt. Hayley makes a run for it and rushes to save her daughter,
Detective hot guy finds Jamie locked backstage in a props closet and calls for backup. He frees Jamie but is shot by Melanie. Melanie grabs Jamie and holds her at gunpoint. Aunt Lisa actually comes to the rescue and grabs Jamie. Hayley takes the gun and holds it on Melanie until the police arrive.
Well, actually, Melanie grabs the gun again and shoots Aunt Lisa. She is sooooooo proud of herself. They both survive, and Hayley is no longer a suspect for murder. Hayley doesn’t take a rideshare to have breakfast with her daughter. BECAUSE SHE CAN AFFORD TO DO THAT NOW WITHOUT HER DEADBEAT HUSBAND!!! The killing pact worked out for her, and she didn’t have to kill anyone. Damn.
