Synopsis (via Lifetime)
A high school girl’s spirits are crushed as she suffers through a humiliating “Cheerleader Initiation Week,” but her dreams aren’t the only thing in danger when another girl on the squad turns up dead, and when she disappears herself, her mom will have to rush to save her. (2021)
Thoughts
The movie begins with Prince Harry having a flashback to Diana’s accident with the paparazzi, except this time it is Meghan in the car. They are unveiling their new baby, Archie, to the world and are faced with bullying and blatant racism. The place doesn’t come to their defense. When Harry appeals to his brother, William laughs off the comments made by the press and makes excuses. The royal family is not helpful either, dissecting Meghan’s every move. Even Harry tells his wife to be a “Royal Robot.”The new mother/princess is totally alone.
The movie flashes to five months earlier, and we see a suicidal Meghan Markle. The movie makes comparisons to Diana Princess of Whales and the struggles she faced. (Minus the racism.) Harry is there for his wife when she needs him. The rift between Meghan and Kate grows wider over an emoji misunderstanding and a poorly received Vogue cover. Meghan tries to explain her feelings to her mother via Facetime, but not even she understands.
Megan and Harry get away from the palace and head back to Africa, where they fell in love, this time with Archie. Meghan and Harry advocate for the women in the country, and Meghan is well-spoken, unafraid, and most importantly herself. Harry realizes that he needs to remove himself and his family from the firm, which he compares to the mafia.
William and Kate catch news about Meghan and Harry leaving the firm. They use it to their advantage with the press and take the opportunity to look perfect to the press. The Royal Family is happy to write off Meghan and Harry publically. Meghan and Harry make a cut call to the palace before announcing that they are exiting the firm. The palace claims that they were blindsided, which is a lie.
The queen shows up and scolds everyone. Which thank God someone did the straight shooting. The movie continues to depict William and Harry at odd with one another. At the same time, making artistic choices like comparing Harry’s speech leaving the firm to Diana speaking to the press.
William is shown coming for Meghan and Harry, excluding them from the program of an event. The conversation can never be truly known, but Lifetime goes there. The Royal family removes protection and security for Meghan and Harry. THey stay at Tyler Perry’s house and then move in near Oprah.
Now in L.A. She writes a commencement speech for her university, emphasizing that Black Lives Matter. (Because they do.) Meghan tells Harry that she is pregnant. They get ready for the Oprah article and get ready to speak their truth. The movie again makes comparisons to Diana here, which is sure to offend all the British people. All I know about The Royal family is what these movies show me so, I’m team Meghan and Harry!
Side Note
Minority Report: Meghan Markle, Meghan’s mother and son.
The liberties that the movie is taking might not be historically accurate or event verifiable, but it is entertaining and taking sides.
