Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Emma (Antonini) is a talented designer who finds herself too busy to return home for the holidays after her work catches the eye of design guru Kate Marguiles (Sy), much to her father, Tom’s (Poch-Goldin), dismay. When her ex-boyfriend and childhood best friend Aaron (Xavier) returns home after active military duty, he makes it his mission to get her home to celebrate their Christmas traditions. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Emma owns an artisanal Christmas ornament store and runs it with her BFF, Liz. Emma throws herself into work to avoid her first Christmas since her mother passed away. Emma wants to impress local celebrity Kate Margulies with her store decor in hopes she will drum up some publicity for the store. (Kate is impressed and offers to host the Christmas Eve Extravaganza.)
Aaron is on leave from the military and stays with Emma’s father since she isn’t coming home for the holidays. He makes it his mission to bring Emma home for Christmas. He shows up at Emma’s shop under the guise that his cousin Sara saw a post about it on social media. Emma and Aaron don’t hit it off again because she is still heartbroken over him, but Sara and Liz do! (They flirt over cheese puns, which is… cheesy.)
Sara invites Liz and Emma to her soup kitchen called Community Kitchen. They are happy to help, even if Aaron will also be there. Aaron and Emma start to rekindle their relationship with some ice skating and hot chocolate. Aaron shares memories of Emma’s mother.
Kate takes an interest in Aaron and asks Emma what is going on with him. Emma says that Aaron is great, and she is not interested, oh but she is. They watch romantic Christmas movies together and cuddle. Then they hash out what happened when they were dating in their teen years. Aaron didn’t get into college and joined the army without telling Emma why. He asked why Emma didn’t answer his letters or phone calls. They makeup and Aaron is falling in love again. Emma is more cautious.
When Emma overhears Aaron talking to his cousin about the original mission that he made with her father, she gets upset and storms off. (Despite overhearing him say that he loves her too. Come on Emma, you are overreacting.)
A decorating montage happens, and Emma even goes home to confront her father about the letter and help him decorate. He eventually apologizes and comes to the city for the Christmas Eve event at Emma’s store. He shows Emma the letters that Aaron wrote.
Emma makes a passionate speech at the event and then makes up with Aaron. They kiss but are interrupted for a group photo. Then they kiss AGAIN and it start to snow.
