Colette (Reynolds) runs a coffee shop that is known for her secret and famous hot chocolate. When Marcus (Swenson), a new dessert shop owner, starts to draw in Colette’s customers with his very own specialty hot chocolate that tastes exactly like the recipe from her beloved grandmother, she is determined to expose him. But as she gets to know Marcus, sparks fly between the cocoa connoisseurs. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Collette works with her family in a hot chocolate shop based on her grandmother’s secret recipe. She wants to expand the drink to grocery stores via a dry mix.
A hunk named Marcus is opening a dessert next to her store, and Collette welcomes him with some free cocoa. They spend time in the town square and have some romance brewing.
That isn’t the only thing brewing; Marcus also has a hot chocolate, which rivals Collette’s. She thinks he stole her recipe when she tries it and stops having flirty feelings for him.
Collette sends over a co-worker Nikki to spy/buy some more and get facts on the ingredients. Nikki is a terrible spy. Then Collette submits her co-worker to a blind tasting, and she can’t tell the difference. Collette confronts Marcus, and he denies stealing her recipe and won’t tell her what is in his. She continues to try to spy on him, but he is onto her.
A fire takes Marcus out of operation, and his business looks like it is in trouble. Collette feels guilty for how she behaved and wants to help Marcus if she can.
It turns out that Marcus learned the recipe from Colette’s grandmother. He was a neighborhood boy who was taken care of by her grandmother, unbeknownst to Collette or her mother.
Collette offers to help Marcus reno his store. Cue a demolition/cleaning up a burnt-down building montage. (My favorite kind???)
The movie has the lowest stakes ever, with Collette trying to perfect her in-store recipe. Should she do dry powder or a liquid version to sell? What is the best way to reheat it? Riveting!
Marcus is even more boring to get a business loan to fix up his store. Merry Christmas!
Collette gives Marcus a Christmas surprise! She demos a hole in the wall and combines the stores! Marcus is touched that she would do that for him. Collette tells him it just makes sense, and she doesn’t need to go nationwide; she just needs his store footprint. (Oh, and him. They are in love, apparently!)
The kiss. The end!
