Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Line Sisters follows four sorority sisters- Valerie (LeToya Luckett), Cassandra (Kierra Sheard-Kelly), Simona (Ta’Rhonda Jones) and Dominique (Drew Sidora) – as they reunite at a Black Greek Weekend celebration held on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with sorority sisters dressed in all black for initiation. The girls are not being “hazed,” so don’t worry. The sisters of Alpha Beta Omega line up their pledges and tear them down. Ashley is the meanest of them all. One girl Brianne or “pigeon,” is kicked out. Valerie the “Oracle,” Cassandra “Dot Com,” Dominique “Covergirl,” and Simona “Set It Off,” only four girls remain, all make it into ABO.
The four celebrate by completing an old sorority tradition of swimming in a lake at night. Cassandra almost drowns, but they all make it across. However, a sister named Jodi doesn’t make it dies in a swimming accident. The new sisters vow to keep their celebrating a secret.
Flash forward 15 years, Valerie is a divorce attorney and argues for Cassandra to win 70% of her .com company from her enraged ex-husband, Mitch. Who lashes out at the sisters. (Minus Simona, who stopped being friends after the accident.)
The friends head to a sorority reunion and try to act like they are living their best lives, despite Cassandra’s public divorce, Dominique’s money issues, and Valerie’s contraception issues.
Strange things start happening when the girls move into their rental. A strange person calls the house and breathes heavily, a snake shows up in Dominique’s bed, and WORMS are mixed in their takeout.
When someone breaks into the house, they finally call the cops. The three friends search the house for an intruder in a scene that is played more for laughs than thrills. The intruder turns out to be Simona looking for a back of chips! She is baaaack!
Simona claims that Valerie invited her, but Valerie didn’t do anything and is still mad with her ex-friend. (Which is hard because they are stating in the same house.) they hash it out and agree to stay out of one another’s way.
With the aid of wine and sorority chants, the old friends are reunited to a foursome. They hit up the beach for some dancing and then later the club for some debauchery. (After locking all the doors and windows of the rental.)
At the club, Mitch surprises Cassandra and locks her in the bathroom. Simona almost fights the man, and they leave the club. Mitch follows them, but someone in a spooky mask murders him as he peeps through the window.
The sorority sisters hear a noise and go out into the night to investigate. They are all captured by the masked figure and tied to a chair and duct tape. The masked figure tries to turn the friends against one another and knows a lot about them. It turns out to be “Pigeon,” AKA Brianne. She is STILL mad about not making it into KBO. (Like, seriously? Let it go!)
Brianne admits to killing Jodi out of jealousy and hoped to pin the death on the sorority and end the chapter. She flunked out of school, and her life went off the rails, and she blamed her potential sisters. Brianne pulls a gun and holds it to Simona’s head, demanding to know who ratted her out.
At gunpoint, the girls are led to the dock to swim in the lake. Cass jumps into the water and is the weakest swimmer, but she has a plan. She sneaks up behind Brianne and hits her in the back of the head, and sends her into the water. Cassandra took swimming lessons.
One year later, Valerie has her baby and toasts to new beginnings with her old sorority sisters and friends. ABO!
Side Note
Minority Report: The cast features Black Actors in all the leading roles.
The tone of this movie was all over the place, but I enjoyed seeing some moments of Black joy.
