Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Hanna is kayaking by herself in a remote lake when she notices some suspicious activity at a nearby cabin, believing the woman and her daughter staying there may be in danger. After the authorities find nothing unusual and brush Hanna off, she looks in on the family herself and it sets off a deadly cat-and-mouse game of survival. Lelia Symington, and Michael Perl star. (2022)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Kayaking guru/business owner, Hanna, goes to the store and meets a strange-acting mother/daughter (Kate/Sarah) renting the cabin next to Hanna’s. They invite Hanna to have dinner with them, and she brings her hippy co-worker Riley.

Hanna has too much wine and overshares around the bonfire about her daughter dying of cancer and an impending divorce. Kate is sympathetic and gives Hanna space to vent. Kate also pointedly doesn’t share much about herself, except for mentioning that she has no money any chance she gets. Hanna sees some bruises and assumes that Kate is a battered wife on the run.

On a night kayak, Hanna sees a man and a woman enter the cabin next door and hears shouting. Then the lights shut off suddenly. She calls the police for a wellness check. The cop says that Kate said everything was fine and confirmed the man Hanna saw was her husband and mother-in-law.

The mother-in-law, Alice, introduces herself to Hanna and asks her to stay away from the family. Alice shares that Kate has “episodes” which cause her to lie. Alice claims that her son, Jason, is a good guy… so butt out. (Basically!)

Hanna is turning into a real Karen, calling the cops AGAIN when she sees Sarah outside mouthing for help. The cops show up again and tell Hannah to “Calm down.” They also let her know that Jason is a cop with no history of abuse in his background.

Alice warns Hanna again to stay away from the family and insists that Kate is the troubled one.

Hanna blows off some steam at the local bar but sees Jason out hitting on some bachelorettes. She creates a scene trying to leave undetected, and when she gets home, it seems as if someone has broken into her house. For a third time… she calls the cops.

This cop guy is so over Hanna and tries to get her to stop abusing 911. (He also seems to have a crush on her. Which is, like, no, dude.)

Someone vandalizes Hanna’s kayak shop, and she calls the police AGAIN! They are really annoyed now and tell Hannah that finding who did it would be like “Looking for a needle in a haystack of needles.” (Which actually makes no sense, wouldn’t that mean it was EASY to find?)

Hanna’s business license gets suspended, and instead of calling a cop, she sleeps with one. He gives her advice afterward. The advice is “Kiss their butts and move on,” which is what Hanna does. She rebuilds her shop and then chugs wine before apologizing to her neighbors for ruining their vacation and being nosey.

Hanna’s friend from the local store says that her ex-husband bought black spray paint. She confronts him, and he tells her that he was buying it for an older lady who fits Alice’s description. As she leaves her ex-husband’s motel, she is almost arrested for vandalizing Jason’s cop truck. (The windows were smashed with a trophy with her name on it.)

Turns out Jason was removed from the police force for misconduct and does have a shady past. While he goes out, Hanna sneaks into the next door cabin to check on the family. She finds Kate handcuffed to the bed. (Not in a sexy way!)

Hanna tries to get Kate and Sarah out of the house before Jason comes home, but she only manages to save Sarah. Jason chases them with a gun and kicks in the door to their cabin while growling.

The police pull up and demand that Jason drop the weapon. Jason looks like he is going to be arrested, but then Alice shows up and knocks out the cop.

Jason chases Sarah and Hanna into the woods, but Hanna has an idea. She puts a CPR dummy on a kayak. When Jason hesitates to shoot the boat, Alice grabs the gun and accidentally shoots her son.

Hanna knocks Alice out with a shovel, and the cops come running down. By the time he gets there, Alice is gone.

The kayak store reopens with two new staff members, Kate and Sarah! Why did all this go down? Who knows? Who cares? This movie was very boring!
