Every Christmas, Reilly Shore (Williams) picks a random spot on the map to take an adventurous trip. This year, that destination is the quaint hamlet of Mistletoe Lake. As she arrives, Reilly discovers that the town’s lone bed and breakfast is full due to the town’s annual Christmas Harbor Festival. When 12-year-old Emma (Kragten) invites Reilly to stay on her dad’s boat, she learns that Emma’s dad, Raymond Mitchell (Sevier), is selling his boat and can’t participate in the festival. Saddened, Emma enlists Reilly’s help to convince Raymond to enter into the festival so they can have one last perfect Christmas on Mistletoe Lake.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with pictures of an old sailing town called Mistletoe Lake.
Cut to Reilly, our protagonist, who is speeding into town, jamming out to Christmas music. She is lost but doesn’t seem to care. Reilly talks to her business-obsessed sister, Tara, about the holiday plan. Reilly hopes to have the family experience her Grandmother’s Christmas past. Which includes staying at the town inn and a harbor festival.
Reilly stops in a local store and Ray, the store owner, isn’t a fan of “The seasonals” or the holidays. His daughter Emma also works at the store and explains that her father hasn’t been the same since her parent’s divorce. Also, the town is on a hot spring, so that is how they can have boats in the water during winter!
Things aren’t looking so great for Reilly when she can’t get a room at the local inn. She wanders around and bumps into a work colleague. (Louis). It brings Rilley back to the store, and she talks to Emma about her job as an interior home stager. Email in nosey AF and all up in Reilly’s relationship status. Once it is determined that Reilly is single, Emma shows her new friend the family sailboat. Ray is there and warms up slightly to the tourist. They decide to let Rilley stay on the houseboat until she figures out her hotel situation. (I would hate that idea, personally)
Ray works on the boat while Reilly gets settled, but she knows boats and helps him try and fix an alternator. She ends up covered in motor oil, and they laugh about it. The relationship develops quickly, and the two go cross-country skiing. Ray’s father started the Christmas festival, but the tradition was too successful and brought tourists and developers who raised property prices so high that Ray will have to sell his boat. The town is even going to sell the harbor.
Louis is the potential buyer and is excited to see Reilly. He tells Ray she is the best house stage he has ever worked with. Ray asks Louis if he can take possession of the boat AFTER Christmas. Louis agrees and invites his family to join them at the harbor festival. Ray asks Reilly if Louis is a good guy who will honor the tradition of the boat. She says that from what she knows of him, yes. (That will prove to be untrue, and cause the dramatic third-act fight, no doubt!)
Emma works on the designs for the boat decorations, and everyone decorates in a happy montage. Then Emma and Ray tell Reilly that they have to plan a party to coincide with the boat design. They decide to do “The Heart of Christmas.” as their theme!
Ray needs a suit for the party, so cue the shopping montage. It is fun to see Ray having good time modeling suits. After they find the right look, they go to a bar for a drink and are roped into Christmas Karokee. They go with a metal version of Jingle Bells, country Silent Night, Disco 12 Days of Christmas, Rap version of O Christmas Tree, and another metal version of We Wish you a Merry Christmas. They basically put on a whole concert. (If I was waiting my turn to sing Jessica Simpson/Ashlee Simpson’s version of “Little Drummer Boy”, I’d be soooooo annoyed.)
Louis tells Reilly that he wants to renovate the boat and name it Titanic?!?! She tells him that she can’t be involved in his scheme. He asks her to design the interior of the boat. He is working on buying the harbor, too, and wants Reilly to do the interiors for the new shopping development. It is a huge opportunity for her business.
Ray finds out about the meeting and accuses Reilly of lying to him. She explains that she was going to tell him, but town gossip got to him first. He forgives her, but Tara interprets the conversation by showing up and spilling the news about Louis buying the harbor. It is terrible timing. Ray storms off, leaving Reilly to schools her sister, for being so business minded and not considering the families they are displacing. Reilly quits the business.
It is time for the Harbor festival! Rilley shows up looking amazing. Ray is into it. They are in love and slow dance.
Louis. so impressed with the party and the boat that he decides to preserve the town’s authentic traditions. He gifts Ray his boat back with a brand new alternator. (Which they install in their formal wear.)
Emma runs up and tells them that they won the boat contest and can dock the boat for free forever! She decides to stay in town to run the store instead of going to a fancy design school. The school calls and offers a full scholarship! On Christmas! Everyone cheers, and then they eat Christmas MistleToast. (Which is like waffles at Christmas!)
Ray and Riley go for a ride on the boat, just the two of them. They kiss while the Christmas lights reflect on the lake.

Robin Dunne (Louis) wrote and directed the movie. Good for him!
