Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Reluctant Crown Prince Edmond returns home just before Christmas in anticipation of being named successor to the throne. To ingratiate himself to his mother the Queen, he gifts her with ‘Mistletoe,’ a rambunctious Corgi in need of some serious training. After several doggy disasters, Edmond turns to Cecily, a canine behavior expert from America for help — but to his great surprise, Cecily demands that he take an active part in the daily dog training sessions. Sparks fly between them as the pair work together to get Mistletoe ready to present at the annual Christmas Ball. Just as the precious pup captures their hearts, they discover that love can grow in the most unexpected places, leading them to question what they really want.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Oh boy, the fake British accents are strong in this one! ENCORAGABLE!

Prince Edmond is back at the castle, and he has a present for the Queen. An untrained corgi named Mistletoe! Princess Victoria is horrified and appalled. The castle Corgi handler is hot; he tells Edmond that the god is a lost cause. (He is also secretly sleeping with Princess Victoria! Scandalous.)

Cut to adorable Cecily, who is a celebrity dog trainer. (Not a doggy therapist.) She has written a popular book “Dog-Ma,” and is starting her own business, Rover Rehab, but needs funding.

Mistletoe creates a ruckus at Queen Portia’s luncheon, and people record the dog eating a Christmas ham. The clip goes viral and is an embarrassment for the Queen. She was going to announce Prince Edmond as her successor, but he is a jester, and the public won’t take him seriously.

Cecily gets a job training Mistletoe and starts off by trying to get him to lie in a bed or a space that is his own. Cecily tries to make friends with the Royal Corgi handler, but he is a snob snob snob!

The training doesn’t go great because The Royals don’t understand that dogs have their person and they need to be involved in the training. Cecily tries to get Prince Edmond to do simple commands with Mistletoe, but it doesn’t go well. Then she loses Mistletoe in the castle, and he gets into trouble again.

Cecily and Mistletoe go out into the town and visit an orphanage with gifts, but the kids are more into the puppy! It is really good PR for Prince Edmond. Afterward, Prince Edmond asks Cecily on a DATE!

The paparazzi get word on the date and almost spoil the dinner. Cecily almost forgets that Prince Edmond is a prince and can’t understand why anyone would be interested in their date. They stay in and make cottage pie; they get distracted and dance romantically in the kitchen and burn the meal.

The following day, The Royals go on a stroll in nature, and The Queen corners Cecily asking if Edmond would make a good king. Cecily tells her that Edmond would never want to disappoint her majesty.

Cecily has an idea for a Christmas charity event at the castle which will feature racing Corgis. The townspeople will bet on a dog to win. Mistletoe wins the race, much to the dismay of the Corgi handler, who is now worried Cecily will take his job.

The Corgi handler overhears Celcily talking with hr friend about getting funding for her business and thinks she is only there for the money. He shows the proposal to Prince Edmond and ruins the Christmas party. Princess Victoria calls him a swine and tells him that he ruined the best Christmas The Royal Family has had in years.

Prince Edmond fires Cecily for being an opportunist. She runs off in her ballgown and tiara.

Victoria is crowned Queen. The Queen tells Prince Edmond that it seems out of Cecily’s character. Prince Edmond doesn’t feel slighted because he is too worried about Cecily.

Cecily says tearily goodbye to Mistletoe, but he runs away, leading right to Prince Edmond. He tells her that he is happy he didn’t become king, so he can get a Brooklyn slice with her! They kiss, and Mistletoe barks. The end!

Side Note

Hunter King is great; this movie is not so much.

Minority Report: Headmistress.
