Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with a Lifetime hunk receiving desperate text messages, which he ignores. He meets up with his wife for an apology dinner. He cheats on Grace and gives her a diamond ring as a makeup gift. They are both run down in the parking lot. RIP!
Cut to Christina and her mother, Liz, who go on morning runs together. Liz is sad because her daughter is moving just off campus for college and leaving Liz and her husband, Noah, empty nesters, which might not be a good thing because the marriage is tense. Noah is up for a managing partner position, and Liz runs her baking business from home with a neighbor named Sam. Noah seems jealous of Sam and his sexy beard.
Christina, who might be a 40-year-old, because she posts FLYERS on campus to look for a roommate like it’s the 90s. Christina interviews candidates and bonds with one girl named Alyssa. Alyssa volunteers at a hospital and is good at poker. Alyssa has a lot of part-time jobs, but her goal is to be a housewife. Christina shows her the place, and Alyssa loves it. She pressures Christina into picking her on the spot. (We couldn’t do a background check or check references.)
Alyssa’s manipulation starts right away, using her dead dad story to convince Christina to let her bring some files to Noah’s office. Alyssa flirts with him and invites him to dinner.
It’s time for moving in montage! These girls have a very basic style. Once they are done they eat Chinese and Alyssa tells Christina about her last relationship with a married doctor. (She leaves out the whole running them over with a car thing.)
Sam helps Liz set up the party and gets a little too close. Noah catches them and is pissed. Once the party starts, things get more awkward. Christina has her boyfriend, Marcus, bring a friend for Alyssa, but she isn’t into him after discovering he is pre-med.
Noah leaves the party early because his co-worker Peter is working overtime and making Noah look bad. Before he goes, Alyssa is sure to remind him about dinner and learn that his assistant, Patricia, is allergic to nuts.
When Noah returns home, he is pissed to find Sam in the house cleaning up. Liz is upset with Noah for leaving and refuses to talk to him. It doesn’t matter because Noah talks to Alyssa, who is looking for her earring. She tells him that Christina understands he is working for a promotion. Noah gives her the flowers he intended to give to his wife. (It is his first MAJOR miscalculation.)
Noah cooks dinner at Christina’s house the next day without his wife present. Alyssa is happy to play house and fill in. Alyssa offers to give Noah personal training sessions, so they can spend even more time together.
When that isn’t enough, Alyssa sends Patricia some Chinese Chicken Salad as a surprise lunch. The assistant is thrilled and eats the meal but then goes into an anaphylactic shock. Alyssa saves her and then offers to fill in as a temp.
Alyssa stays late at the office and orders her favorite, Chinese. She shares with Noah, who is also working later. The alone time doesn’t last long because Patricia is set to be released from the hospital and back at work in days, just in time for the announcement of the Managing Partner. Peter gets the position over Noah.
Liz doesn’t support Noah when he tells her about losing out on the position. She talks all about herself and taking a loan from Sam. Noah accuses Liz of having an affair, and she slaps him across the face. Liz kicks him out.
At the hotel, Alyssa is there, and she successfully seduces him at the hotel bar. They have hot drunken sex, and the following day Noah feels terrible for having an affair. Alyssa tells him he deserves to be valued and wanted. Noah shuts her down and goes back to his wife.
Alyssa starts seducing everyone! She hooks up with Craig at the hospital and gets a flash drive or something. Then later, she seduces Peter, who wants her to be HIS assistant. She roofies his drink and has him follow her in his car. He runs off the road after he passes out at the wheel.
With Peter dead, Noah gets the promotion. He realizes that Alyssa orchestrated the whole thing.
She isn’t the only one realizing Alyssa is terrible news. Christina goes running with Marcus and sees them canoodling. Things get physical, and Christina bitch slaps Alyssa. (Which is warranted! TBH!)
Christina decides to track down the ex that Alyssa dated. She googles Doctors named Jason in Texas. (Haha, good luck, gurl!) Noah tries to explain things to his daughter and tells her that the marriage isn’t working; he also asks her not to tell Liz before he can talk to her.
Noah tries to tell his wife about the affair, but he chickens out because they are getting along for once. Alyssa watches from the window, seething. She knocks over a plant because why not! Noah officially breaks things off with Alyssa, sending her into a violent rage.
Noah realizes he has to tell Liz; Christina gets to her mother first and almost spills the beans about the affair. It turns into a family meeting, which is really weird.
Christina gets back to her search and finds the doctor from Texas. She sends an email.
Liz meets with her daughter, and they get into a fight about Alyssa. (Who has moved out of the apartment.) Craig stabs Liz when she leaves the restaurant and steals her purse to make it look like a robbery. Alyssa made him do it with blackmail from the USB. (There was a security video of Craig stealing files for Peter.)
The doctor, Jason from Texas, calls Christina. He tells her that Alyssa is named Victoria, and she killed his wife. He gives them a number for a detective who worked on his case and is looking for Alyssa/Victoria.
While making a tomato sandwich, Noah is hit in the head and knocked out by Alyssa. Alyssa goes upstairs and tries to kill Liz with a knife. Christina runs upstairs and grabs a fire poker to stop the attack. Alyssa cries on the floor and says, “Everyone deserves to be loved.” (Which isn’t exactly true.)
A detective shows up just in time to do nothing. They learn that Craig was murdered for not killing Liz.
Liz opens a bakery, and everyone is happy! The end!
Side Note
While I appreciate the attention to the marriage, I was more interested in Christina and Alyssa going at it.
I was waiting for the whole movie for someone to pull a Mommie Dearest, “Christina!!! Bring me the axe!”

I simply could not get past the fact that Craig, a doctor, was rooming with Christina’s boyfriend, a college student. Why was a doctor partying with undergrads!?
