When Selma pulls the trigger in self-defense to stop her abusive, dirty cop husband, Jason, she goes on the run and takes shelter with her estranged sister, Madison. Upon arriving, Selma lies and says she wants to reconnect with Madison, who reluctantly takes in her untrustworthy, “free-spirited” sister. Soon after, though, Madison’s house is ransacked, forcing Selma to come clean about her surprise visit. Fearing Jason’s corrupt partners want her dead, Selma flees with Madison to an old family cabin. While hiding out, the sisters struggle to put their differences aside until Madison brings Sheriff’s Deputy Rusty into the fold to help them. But when Madison’s daughter is kidnapped by the dirty cops as bait to lure Selma out, the estranged sisters must come together to ensure no further harm comes to their family. Stars Brianna Cohen, Nicole Marie Johnson, Jonathan Stoddard, and Zach Meiser (2023).
Recap/Wine Thoughts.
Selma and Madison are sisters! Who are on the run? (Oh, not yet!)
Selma is in an abusive husband who loves the Confederate flag and has nice boots! He is also a cop. Selma grabs a gun and shoots him at close range. Slema stays in women’s shelters until she hits her nights-in-a-row limit and decides to go see her sister.

Cut to Madison; she is raising a 15-year-old daughter who is sassy AF with her husband. Madison tries to add structure to her family life because she didn’t have that growing up. Selma shows up in the middle of a literal tea party, and Madison isn’t excited to see her. When Madison tells her husband about Selma, he asks why she didn’t invite her to stay. Madison is still upset that she had to care for their dying alcoholic mother, while Selma was out partying all the time.

Detectives are on Selma’s trail in the murder of their fallen colleague. They are crooked cops, but one of them is SUPER HOT.

Madison also looks for Selma because she feels bad for sending her away. Selma tells her sister that she is alone and left her husband. Madison agrees to let her stay at her home for a few nights as long as she leaves her DRAMA at the door. Selma is grateful.
Selma is on edge and worried that someone is following her. While doing laundry, Selma hears someone breaking into the house. She finds the back door shattered, and a masked intruder named Ajax, thanks CC, calls out for her while searching the house. Selma fights for her life and beats them with a cast iron skillet.

Madison comes home and finds the house a mess; she is mildly annoyed at best until she comes across the intruders and realizes she is in danger. Selma sneaks Maddy out of the house and into the car. They drive away as the intruders/cops watch, outsmarted.

The story of the sisters on the run hits the news. They are accused of being cop killers. Maddy feels stupid for letting Selma bring danger into her home. Selma tells her sister about shooting her husband and him being a shady cop involved in a drug ring. Maddy takes Selma to a cabin that belongs to her friend for them to hide out.

Meanwhile, Madison’s husband and Daughter are questioned by the police.
Maddy turns her sister in and calls the local sheriff, Rusty… uhhh… WOW! Selma tells Rusty what is happening, and he asks Selma not to run while he looks into her story. He is risking his career to help her and urges Madison to watch her sister while he digs up evidence. As soon as Rusty leaves, Selma tries to go, and Maddy tackles her sister and wrestles her to the ground. The physical altercation triggers intense PTSD for Selma.

Selma is always on the defense and almost beats Rusty with a bat when he brings over some groceries. They talk about Selma being a cop killer and her bad PR issue, and they sip coffee in complementary plaid button-ups. They almost have a natural conversation about growing up, but before getting too close, Selma decides to check on Madison, who secretly talks to her family on the landline. Selma tells Maddy to go home if she misses her family, and then Maddy learns her inhaler is empty, and she might have to leave!

Rusty is surprised when he heads to work, and the crooked cops are there. They try to intimidate him and remind him of his police duties. He picks up Selma while she is having a panic attack in town and then asks Maddy if she thinks her sister killed a cop. Selma goes missing and Rusty sets out to find her while Maddy waits at the cabin.
The jerk cops attack Rusty at the station, which seems like the worst spot to target him at; Selma finds him bloody on the floor and feels terrible for him. Selma calls Maddy to warn her.

The only collateral that will get the sisters to them is Willow, Maddy’s daughter. They go to a shack, and Willow screams for help. The bad boys only want Selma and let Willow and Maddy go. Maddy sends Willow in the car and stays to save her sister.

Selma’s husband is alive and well; he faked his own death. Jason tells her that he is taking Selma home to keep forever, and then he LICKS HER FACE?! UGH!

Maddy frees Selma, and they get in the car with Willow as the getaway driver. They are all kidnapped, and Jason is particularly violent. Maddy starts to have trouble breathing without her inhaler. Selma manages to loosen her restraints and waits for the perfect moment to strike. She grabs his gun and brings him outside to get the inhaler for her sister.

Jason lunges at her, and Selma shoots him for real this time. Police arrived on the scene and took out the other bad cops. Everyone is saved!
Maddy lets go of her perfect persona and has everyone over for a backyard BBQ with ALUMINIUM trays?!?! Maddy shows up with her date, Rusty. The sisters sit by the fire and Selma says they are moving to California and thanks Maddy for everything.
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Not the daughter, not knowing who Thelma and Louise are!
Brianna Cohen was excellent here, probably one of her best performances.

I seem to remember watching this movie a while back like in March? Brianna is such a badass in this movie and Jason Stoddard, he’s much better with his shirt off ALL the time! More like this one, please, LMN.
