Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When Allie’s father George takes her on a celebratory trip to Greece to discover her familial roots, George soon ends up murdered and Allie must uncover long-kept family secrets if she’s going to bring the killer to justice. Starring Cass Huckabay, and Maeve Quinlan (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts.

The movie starts with a blonde hanging off a cliff; she is banged up and bloody and climbing for her damn life. She screams, “LET HER GO!” before we get the title card. (Nice start!)

One week earlier, we see the same blonde, Allie, walking through the streets of Greece with her estranged father. Allie reconnects with her Greek father, George. Her parents divorced, and it has been tense. A police officer pulls up and pretends to arrest George as a joke. They speak Greek, and Allie is like, “Uhh, what?” Then, he helps them with their bags and gives them a ride home.

They stop for lunch, and Allie accidentally orders octopus with vinegar. The police officer/friend, Kostas, makes fun of her as they walk the pier, and George talks about how they have been friends since childhood.

Yaya welcomes George and Allie. She is convinced she is dying, even though she has recently learned English and seems to be moving around well. Theo, George’s bad boy brother is also there. They haven’t seen one another since their father died because the brothers were fighting over a woman named Iris. George left for the US and met his estranged wife Catherine, and they had Allie. This age-old fight erupts over the dinner table, and Allie has many questions.

Allie calls her mother Catherine, Lifetime legend who never ages, Maeve Quinlan, and the conversation is interrupted by a loud bang and more commotion. Allie stays on the line with her mother and looks around the house. She finds her father dead on the floor and is then attacked by a masked figure who knocks Allie down. Allie hits her head and thinks she sees someone with long hair leaving before losing consciousness.

Police detectives want to talk to Allie, but Yaya forbids them. Kostas sits down with Allie anyway, and she tells him that she thinks it was Theo who murdered her father because of the fight they had. They won’t listen to Allie, and the medical examiner says it was a heart attack that killed her father. Theo is NOT a suspect—no indication of foul play.

Allie decides to investigate, and she looks into who Iris is. (This is a brave thing to do in another country where you don’t speak the language.) Her search takes her back to the docks and to Uncle Theo’s boat. A young hunk named Andres tells her that Theo skipped town a few days ago, and he is watching his boat.

Then Catherine shows up! She came to the country and tracked her daughter’s phone location. (Like a true lifetime mother!) Catherine helps Allie look into George’s death. They start with the coroner, and she is super annoyed with Allie’s internet searches and accusations that she didn’t do her job effectively. Kostas shows up and removes Allie from the office. Catherine steps in and gets in Kostas’s face. She shuts it down. (God, I love her!)

Next, Allie returns to the boat and demands that Andres show her where Theo is. She turns her phone off so her mother can’t follow her. They talk about sports, and Andres likes baseball, while Allie likes to climb. They sail out all day and night.

While Catherine anxiously waits at the Greek house worrying about Allie, Yaya ends up unconscious on the floor! She calls the police, and we aren’t sure if she died or what.

When they find Theo, Allie calls Kostas. She shoots a flare into the sky, dives into the ocean, and boards Theo’s boat because something seems off. Theo is surprised to see Allie, but before he can say anything, Andres knocks Theo out with a rock. Andres is bloody from a gash on his forehead. The police arrive, and Allie decides to stop trusting Kostas.

Catherine steals an envelope from Kostas’s car while he looks at a body in the coroner’s office. The body labeled George Kostas isn’t George; it is the body of an old man. Kostas is VERY confused, and he is murdered in the parking lot before he can call his boss. (He does manage to tell Catherine before someone kills him.)

Andres takes Catherine and Allie to the Greek Orthodox Church, where they find a picture of George with Iris in what seems like a wedding photo. Then Iris herself, who just so happens to be the coroner, pulls up with a gun and chases after them. George cuts them off and stops the car chase. He is alive.

Theo is innocent and waits by Yaya’s hospital bed for her to wake up from a coma. He is the good son, and George is the bad son! Yaya tells Theo that Iris attacked her. Theo calls the cops.

George tries to explain to his family that he is just trying to protect them by faking his death with Iris. Andres turns out to be working with Iris, his mother and leads her to them. Andres positions George with tea, and when the effects take place, the truth is revealed. Allie stabs Andrews in the hand and makes a run for it. She ends up on the edge of the cliff, and Andres tries to stab her and loses his footing, falling off. He grabs Allie’s shirt and sends her tumbling with her, but Allie climbs up to help her mother, who is struggling over the gun with Iris.

Catherine grabs the gun and holds Iris until the police arrive. Theo pulls up, and Iris tries to convince him to get rid of his niece and sister-in-law. Theo doesn’t go for it.

Two weeks later, Catherine heads back to the USA. Allie will stay behind and live with Yaya. She asks her mother not to worry about her, and Catherine says that it is her job to worry. (She said this like a true Lifetime Mother.)

Allie takes Theo climbing with her, and they will work on their relationship.(Aww, good! Sorry we judged you for your long hair, Theo!!)

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

This movie was a good depiction of what it is like to be a child of multiple nationalities.

I also liked that this was not an over-the-top portrayal of Greek culture. (Like everyone is not My Big Fat Greek Wedding.)

  1. I thought it was ok. I still don’t really understand the faking death and needing Iris for it (just bc she’s a coroner? Lol) and Allie was annoying. But I liked that 90% of the cast was legit Greek and not just people pretending poorly lol.

    1. Yes. The autentic Greek location and actors was a major plus. Other than that…meh. Allie was ridiculous. She was making teenage level mistakes. Sneaking out with a low battery phone. Not even leaving a note for her mom ir grandma. Going off sailing for a night and a day with a guy she just met, claiming she trusted him. Based on what?! A hot mess. Couldn’t even route for her because of all the stupidity

  2. Kinda guessed one of the culprits early on. Not the older one of the 2 though. Possibly because I had no idea what was going on. But the main girl…made so many dumb decisions. She was kind of silly. And this felt more like a TNT weekend movie than a Lifetime movie. It was Meh. 😔 for cop. The scenery was the main star. They actually filmed in Greece.

  3. Thanks so much for reviewing our movie and watching it!! (: This was so fun to read
