Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When an introverted lawyer travels to an infamous party island to collect her estranged sister’s body, she becomes suspicious of foul play. With reluctant help from a local bar owner, she begins to unravel the circumstances of her sister’s accident and starts to believe she could be next. Starring Lindsey Dresbach, Adam Harper, James Bobo, and Kate Dailey (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts.

The movie starts at a beautiful beach island off of Miami. Mel Dale rides on the fairy (Update: it is spelled Ferry, and I’m an idiot! Thank you to the commenter for the correction, haha!) to the island dressed in business casual attire. (Unlike the other passengers on the boat.) She heads to the morgue to identify the body of her dead sister. The Detective on the case hands over the sister’s clutch, which has baby pictures of the sisters inside and a few dollars. Georgia was “tombstoning” (Jumping off a cliff.) and found in the water with a new tattoo that looks like an infinity symbol. The Detective tells Mel that they think Georgia was drunk and they haven’t recovered her phone. Recently, a rash of young girls went missing on the island, and Mel is suspicious.

Mel checks into the local hotel and meets Paula and Keaton, the owners. They show Mel to Georgia’s room and her personal belongings. Paula tells Mel that her sister was parting a lot, and that goes against the free spirit hippy teetotaler Georgia was known as. Paula says she is inspired to start a crisis center on the island in honor of Georgia.

Then Mel talks to a local bartender, who confirms that Georgia was not a drinker.

Mel THEN talks to a local island girl named Kaya who says the island is cursed.

Finally, a party happens!!!! It is too fancy for my taste. It is semi-formal, with Champagne and a piano player. This is different from the typical spring break crowd. Keaton is next in line to inherit the hotel fortune. Paula tells the guests that they have received over two million dollars. The donors politely applaud for themselves. Mel goes to the bathroom and sees a pamphlet with the symbol matching the one on Georgia’s dead body.

On her way home from the party, Mel is almost run over by a car. The Detective tells her that the island has a bad drunk driving problem.

Mel talks to more people. This movie is just a lot of talking about a character we have yet to see, not even in a flashback! Eventually, though, Mel runs out of people to talk to and gets an automated voicemail from a robot telling her about a cult in the woods. Mel checks it out, and it turns out to be a trap. Some guys with a literal boombox and flashlights try to kidnap her, but she manages to get away.

Mel’s mom calls and tells her that Georgia is alive and well. She posted on social media, and the post talks about Georgia being on a yacht and shares some story about dropping her phone in the hot tub. Mel gets in a fight with the Detective about whether her sister is alive or dead.

The bartender, Jever, is a slow-talking sex appeal, and Mel is into it.

Georgia calls and tells Mel to go home and not to worry. She asks about a childhood pet named Charlie, which is code for she is in trouble. Paula and Keaton listen intently to the conversation and try to reassure Mel that it is all good.

Mel takes a nap, as most people do in high-stress moments!

Someone breaks into her room and attacks her sleep, and Mel runs to the bar. Jever tells her that a masked intruder ransacked, and he tells Mel to get off the island. She takes his advice after spending the night and sneaks off the island in a floppy hat and oversized sunglasses. Mel leaves just as her mother, Alice, arrives.

Mel sneaks on a boat with a girl named Sarah from the hotel. It is the same boat trip Georgia took. The stewardess, Eden, asks to take their phones and offers to record a video of their digital detox. Eden has the infinity symbol tattoo.

The ladies are taken to a mansion on another island, and Paula and Keaton welcome them. They say the girls would be working for exclusive clientele. (One of which happens to be the Detective.) Mel overhears Paula and Keaton arguing.

Mel just happens to find her sister crying in a room, and they make a run for it through the woods before being captured by security. Jever is also randomly in the woods and kidnapped.

They are taken to see Keaton. They shoot him and leave while security just stands there.

Alice is reunited with her daughters and they hug. Georgia thanks Mel for saving her, and Jever is there too! LOL. Whatever!

  1. “Blood In The Water” is not a good alternate title for this clunkily written tale (that’s what it was shown on UK TV.

  2. Just ended on Channel 5 here in the UK, called “Blood In The Water” not a good alternate title…

  3. I literally can’t hear to read the plot because it couldn’t hold my attention. Just terrible 🤦🏽‍♀️
