Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Things get dangerous for a young, first-time homeowner after she rents her spare bedroom to a charming, British music producer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Starring Maryana Dvorska, Veronica Long, and Josh Cole (2024)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with a woman jogging. (Surprisingly she doesn’t get attacked!)

Cut to London, England (Oh lord, not bad British accents!) Alec is just casually brushing his teeth when some ruffians show up and beat him up, warning him he has two days! He hopes to get on a plane for Florida.

Back in the USA, the jogging girl turns out to be an interior designer and a new homeowner, Jessica. The mortgage payment is a little more than she was expecting, so she vents to her best friend, Louisa, while working out. (again?!?!) Louisa tells her friend that she has to do what she has to do! Louisa also calls Jessica out for being too obsessed with “wellness.” (IE., Counting macros and calling a celebration dinner for her new home a “cheat meal”)

Lousia helps Jessica look for a potential roommate. Cue a Roommate montage!!! (Complete with an Andy Whorhol knocks off.)

Then Alec shows up and charms them with his British accent and curly locks. Jessica is quick to tell him that her parents are dead. (Great icebreaker!)

Louisa FAILS IN HER BEST FRIEND ROLE! She pushes Jessica to go with Alex even though he has no credit, current proof of employment, or references. Louisa likes him because he is in the music industry and knows a band she likes. Jessica reluctantly goes along with it after her alternative choice decides the bathroom isn’t big enough.

Alec, Louisa, and Jessica drink wine and talk about music. They toast to making the right choice!

Alec meets with some singers and poses as a big-time music producer. They buy his pitch and even sing at the table. The singers hire him as their manager and are thrilled to make it in the biz!

Jessica hasn’t seen much of Alec, and he puts a lock on the door. She hears him arguing on the phone about money and becomes frustrated when his deposit check bounces. When Jessica confronts him, he buys himself more time by telling her about a BIG deal that is coming through. Jessica lets it slide even though the check was supposed to be for five months’ rent!

Jessica has to ask for an advance from a client to make ends meet, and it does not look good.

Things go from worse to worser!!!! Alec blares loud music in the middle of the night and gets into a domestic dispute with a girlfriend. Jessica witnesses the whole thing and calls the police, but Alec plays the British fop role well and charms them again.

Louisa sides with ALEC?! She makes up excuses for him and tells Jessica to be more sensitive. Alec pays Jessica what he owes and sits down for some unofficial mediation from Louisa. Alec explains that he broke up with the girl and promises never to hit a woman. (again!)

Cut to a montage of life going on! Alex plays the guitar in a tank top, and Jessica continues to work out. They coexist well, and Jessica continues to work out all the time. Louisa spends more time with Alec, and they begin to have a romantic relationship.

Jessica gets a call from London from Preston Black, a big-time musician. Preston tells Jessica that Alec is impersonating someone, and that is not his real name. Jessica calls Louisa to warn her, but it it too late. She has already hooked up with him and his abs.

Thankfully, Jessica calls the singers to warn them about Alec. They meet him and tell him they are not interested in signing the contract. Alec has an angry outburst in the middle of the restaurant, which causes a scene.

Alec fakes a back injury to get more money and claims he slipped on a juice maker Jessica “left out.” Foreseeing a pending lawsuit, Jessica meets with the other potential tenant, who mentions she is a lawyer. The Lawyer convinces Jessica to hire her and admits she lied about the big bathroom; she just thought Jessica didn’t like her. (I love this lady!)

Alec sues and meets with a doctor to get a neck brace. He also files a restraining order. Jessica gets arrested for using counterfeit bills that Alec gave her for rent money. Jessica loses the design job she was working on.

The Lawyer is so on top of things that even though she likes to read books in the bathroom, she manages to find time to put a case together.

While doing push-ups, shirtless, thank God. Alec gets a phone call from Jessica pretending to be an up-and-coming band looking for management to get him out of the house. Jessica has to break into her own home and into Alec’s room.

Alec discovers the band is fake and catches Jessica going through his things. Jessica finds a bunch of fake IDs and incriminating evidence in a lock box. Jessica tells Alex to go back to wherever he came from.

When Alec gets violent, Jessica runs for it. The Lawyer shows up, helps save Jessica, and calls the police.

Jessica gets her home back but decides to keep the house, I think? She continues to be an exercise fanatic and randomly goes on a date with someone named Duke.

Alec moves back to London and gets what is coming to him at the pub!

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

The music in this movie was WILD!

The literal toilet humor was so British. God bless!
