Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Angie, the wife of a charismatic pastor who extols family values yet maintains an icy demeanor toward his own, seeks solace from her marital woes in the arms of her recently hired pool boy, a fling which quickly upsets the idyllic facade of the community, reigniting old jealousies, and leaving no one’s secrets safe.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with an epic fight between a woman and a man fighting to the death by a pool. The woman ends up face down, floating in the pool.

Cut to a Barbie floating in the pool and a child reaching for it. The kid is the daughter of Pastor Jim and his wife, Angie. They are late for Sunday service and rush to listen to Pator/Husband Jim preach the gospel. Angie is dutifully by his side and has the important job of putting away the donations in the safe. Once the congregation has left, Pastor/Husband Jim gives his wife the cold shoulder and even skips family dinner. The couple goes to bed, and it is clear something is off.

Angie has other wives from the church over for wine by her lovely pool. Desiree is divorced, Sarah is a little too into the God talk, and they ALL appreciate the new pool boy, Jason. He is a hunk with a pretty gemstone necklace.

Angie starts spending time with Jason while fiddling with the cross dangling around her neck. She coos, “I didn’t grow up religous.” when Jason asks what it is like being married to a pastor. Then, they talk about feeling lonely. Angie mentions being estranged from her family, and they almost kiss, but Angie stops things from going too far. (Even though she has intentionally broken the pool so Jason can come to repair things.)

Pastor/Husband Jim comes home to find his wife has cooked a candlelit dinner and wears a fancy cocktail dress. He is unimpressed and tells her the dress is too revealing. The dinner conversation doesn’t go well. Angie tries to confront her husband about how he has been neglecting his family and her womanly desires. Pastor/Husband Jim tells her he is done and starts sleeping at the church.

The WIFI in the pool goes out, so Jason comes over to fit it and finds the router unplugged. He knows what is happening and tells Angie she doesn’t have to be alone. Then he shuts the door and has his way with her. (Oo, it is steamy!) Pool Boy Jason is super hot, except for an unfortunate back tattoo. He tells Angie that she is so beautiful as he makes love to her.

The following day, Angie gets the main and finds a note that reads, “THERE IS A SINNER AMONGST YOU!” She isn’t the only one who receives the ominous note.

Sarah shows her note to Angie and finds out about the Poolboy affair. Sarah admits to hooking up with the old pool boy Rodney and cheating on her husband, too. Sarah is surprisingly supportive and forgiving.

Pastor/Husband Jim hasn’t seen the note since he has been talking about the sound system at the church with another hunk named Nathan. Nathan and Pastor/Husband Jim have some sexual tension going on. When Pastor/Husband Jim checks the mail, he sees a note too and crumples it up.

Desiree and Sarah come over and gossip about the note. It sounds like Jason has also been making emergency house calls to other houses. Angie is disappointed but relieved to learn other people are having affairs with the pool boy. Pastor/Husband Jim comes home early, surprised that the new pool boy is so hot. He works it into his next sermon about sexual depravity and orgies. (Y’all talk about orgies in CHURCH?!?!)

Angie channels her sexual frustration into working out and hides from the temptation of Jason. He tells Angie that he needs her, but she fires his ass and breaks things off.

The next note that comes in the mail reads, “I Know Your Dirty Sins, and I’m Going to listen to a religious podcast and follows Desiree to a motel, where she sees her hooking up with Jason.

Angie meets with Sarah and tells her that she saw Desiree and Jason having an affair. Sarah thinks Jason could be behind the whole thing; how he bought Rodney’s business is shady, and Jason continues to creep around Angie’s house. Sarah encourages her friend to call the police.

Angie doesn’t do that and instead returns to the motel with a knife to investigate. She interrogates Jason, and he tells her that he is in love with her and knows her in the most “carnal way.” (Eww.) Before she storms off, Jason tells her that people in the community are sinners and she should know.

A car chases Angie as she leaves the motel, honking and flashing its light. It creeps her out, and she finally considers going to the police. The police are already busy investigating Jason’s death! He drowned in the motel pool right after her visit. There is blunt force trauma on his forehead, and the police rule Jason’s death a homicide.

Pastor/Husband Jim randomly asks Angie for a dinner date the next morning just as the news about Jason’s murder spreads through the community. Pastor/Husband Jim thinks Jason was a pretty bad guy from the rumors he heard. Then he starts quoting something Nathan said the other day at the church men’s group.

Desiree has gone MIA since Jason’s murder, but she sends Angie a text to trust no one. Later, she calls and sets up a secret meeting,

Detective Dan questions Angie and Pastor/Husband Jim at the church. Detective Dan has video footage of Pastor/Husband Jim outside the motel the night Jason was murdered but nothing of Angie. (Hmmmmm?)

Pastor/Husband Jim has been way too nice to Angie since Jason’s murder. He even pours her a glass of wine and drinks with her!! He also takes their daughter to school the next day. (But actually doesn’t take her, just to freak Angie out.)

Angie starts to have terrible nightmares about her husband and suspects that Pastor/Husband Jim might have drugged her the night before. Sarah tells Angie that she is being paranoid, but Angie feels trapped and shares that Pastor/Husband Jim isn’t her daughter’s father.

Pastor/Husband Jim has a convention out of town, and Nathan happens to give him a ride.

With her husband out of town for a while, Angie goes into Pastor/Husband Jim’s safe and finds notes in the same handwriting, but they are encouraging messages. She also finds a bottle of pills and a picture of Pastor/Husband Jim & Nathan and the dead woman.

Desiree meets Ange at the church, but when Angie arrives, she finds Desiree sitting in a pew, foaming at the mouth, deader than a doornail. (Why do people say this?) There is a bottle of pills and a suicide note stuffed in a bible.

Angie meets with her sister, who has connections with the police and offers to run Pastor Jim’s DNA (Stolen from a hairbrush) through the system and reverse image search. Angie also finds Desiree’s butterfly earrings in her husband’s car.

Pastor/Husband Jim’s trip gets canceled, and he lurks around the house, scaring his daughter into thinking that he is the devil.

The results come back from the police, and the sister learns that Pastor/Husband Jim was accused of having an affair with a student, and then the student? Ange feels like she needs more evidence to do anything.

Ange comes home after her sister doesn’t show up from another meeting. Angie confronts Pastor/Husband Jim about everything. Did I miss something, or did the movie jump to the end? Pastor/Husband Jim admits to having a joint affair with Nathan and their mentor’s wife. He tells Angie that he loves her and apologizes for lying. The dead pool woman was the mentor’s wife and Pastor/Husband Jim claims that she was killed by her husband when he found out about the love triangle.

The sister ends up in the hospital in a coma after a bad car crash. Angie visits her with Pastor/Husband Jim. He promises to make it all up to Ange and turn things around.

The couple are back at church, and Angie plays the dutiful wife by his side.

That is until Catherine, the sister, wakes up from her coma, tears out her IV, and sneaks out of the hospital to warn Ange.

Meanwhile, Ange finds a sex tape of her and Jason going at it in the safe. Pastor/Husband Jim has known about the affair the whole time. He also killed Jason and Desiree because they were too close to revealing the truth about him. He killed Victoria, the woman he was having an affair with. He also caused Cathy’s car accident. Angie screams at him and punches him in the face before trying to escape the church.

A church chase scene happens, and it seems pretty blasphemous, but it’s Lifetime, so nothing shocks me anymore. Angie knocks Pastor/Husband Jim out with a candle stick and tells him to “Go to Hell.” (I guess he does because he is DEAD!)

Angie moves out of town and closer to her family. They all hug and drink wine. The end!

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

You know, I was hoping the big secret was Pastor/Husband Jim and Nathan were having a gay love affair. I guess Lifetime isn’t ready for that!
