Recap/Wine Thoughts
Christmas Movie legend Jake Epstein is back for another round!! Lets do this.
The movie starts with the titular Christmas song, “Sincerely Christmas,” I have never heard of. Christina is a BIG FAN and a New York music mogul. She is hosting her parents for Christmas and shops with a freaking basket. The girl is quirky and definitely NOT cool. After checking in with her parents, Christina goes to work at Poperatic and learns who is doing the annual Christmas Single. Christina lets her boss know what she thinks about the pop star, who happens to be on the conference call. Christina is fired on the spot.
Christina walks home with her box of work belongings, including the album. She walks by a brownstone and notices the door is open. She investigates and finds a realtor, Jake Epstine. He flirts with her and asks her for a date, which Christina declines. He also admires her taste and Christmas music and lets her know he knows the musician who sings, “Sincerely Christmas.”
Christina makes a wish on a star ornament for everyone to say what they REALLY want for Christmas. The Christmas magic happens right away and takes that wish quite literally. Christina hears all the stupid things people want for Christmas as she walks around New York. She feels like she is losing her mind. Everyone she talks to shares what they want for Christmas as the camera zooms in and talks in a little kid’s voice. It’s weird. Christina tells her mom what is happening, and they agree it is a useless superpower.
To get her job back, Christina pitches getting the “Sincerely, Christmas” singer, Dan Copren, to come out of retirement and record Poperatic’s Christmas single. Christina goes back to Jake Epstein for that contact information and learns that he was exaggerating. Christina comes clean about her superpower, and Jake Epstein believes her. (He wants a stocking for Christmas.) Jake Epstein asks Christina to make Christmas the best for his son, and he will help her track down Dan Copren.
They get Dan Copern’s phone number, and Christina calls and leaves him a message.
There is some bonding with Jake Epstein’s kid and Christina. He is impressed she works for a popular music publication and wants to build sandcastles for Christmas. He also wants to plant tomato seeds in a garden. IDK.
Jake Epstein and Christina sneak into Dan Opern’s house, and he is PISSED. He wants nothing to do with the new generation of music listeners, but he does want new leather pants. Eventually, he agrees but doesn’t want to be taken advantage of, which he is going to be. He signs the contract, unaware they want to “pop-i-fy” his sound.
Things fall apart before they don’t even have time to come together. Oliver, Jake Epstein’s son, finds out about moving and feels his dad betrayed him. Dan Opern also wants nothing to do with the song, which has been updated for a modern audience.
Christina wishes to reverse her superpowers. They have brought her nothing but heartache.
Dan has a change of heart and comes to the gala with a new song for Izzy. He wins over the crowd with a simple rendition. Christina sings the song along with me, and Jake Epstein does too. They aren’t great, but the song is a hit.
Jake Epstein and Christina kiss, even though her superpowers are gone. The end.
