Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Unbeknownst to a nurse, her newly minted love is not all he seems…and his bedside manner proves to be fatal…and his favorite prescription is murder!
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts in a hospital, but it isn’t a sexy hospital like Grey’s Anatomy; it’s a serious hospital with a lot of X-rays. It is Sheyla’s first day, and she can’t even type on the keyboard because things are so fast-paced. Lucky for Sheyla, Stacey Dash is there and hasn’t aged a day. (We can have her on Lifetime now since she has disavowed Trump & Fox News Support.) Dr. Derek Calico personally welcomes Sheyla to the team and is very flirty.
Stacey Dash invites Sheyla out for post-work martinis (my favorite) with their gay nurse friend, Grant, where they gossip and share nursing horror stories. (I should have played the Grant character, next time, then!) Sheyla doesn’t have much to contribute because her last hospital was soooooo slow and dull. Dr. Derek crashes their party, so Grant and Stacey Dash leave the lovebirds to get to know one another.
Sheyla shares that Dr. Derek kind of intimidates her and asks if he flirts with all the new nurses. (Probably!) She also tells him about not being close to her family and not having a dating life. Dr. Derek takes her home, and they hook up on their first date. (No Judgment!)
You know who is judging, Angie, Dr Derek’s jealous ex-girlfriend or maybe wife? She demands to know who Sheyla is, and he accuses her of stalking him. Angie promises that Dr. Derek will NEVER get rid of her. So, Dr. Derek strangles her to death. (That was quick!)
Dr. Derek and Sheyla start spending the night together, and Dr. Derek does pushups at 4am on his knuckles while in his underwear and grunting loudly. That isn’t a red flag for Sheyla, and they continue to date.
Six weeks later, Sheyla becomes Mrs. Dr. Derek Calico. He wants her to quit working, but Sheyla explains that she loves being a nurse and would never give it up. She might have to, because Sheyla is pregnant. Sheyla tells Stacey Dash, and she is happy for her friend. Dr. Derek is NOT, and he cries when he finds the pregnancy test while listening to Opera.
Charisma Carpenter shows up VERY randomly and is playing a smart doctor with glasses. Charisma Carpenter is surprised to learn that the nurses have been tasked by the CEO of the hospital to investigate the disappearance of medication. Stacey Dash notices that whenever the meds went missing, Dr. Derek was the attending on shift. She confronts him and hands over the papers for him to review.
Dr. Derek and Sheyla talk more about her working at the hospital, and he gives her a drugged coffee and calls a CODE BLUE! When she comes to, Dr. Derek tells Sheyla that she is pregnant and advises her to stay in bed and rest due to the dizzy spell. He continues to make her sit with tea and drinks. Sheyla can’t even walk down a hallway without falling over.
While wearing a newsboy cap, Dr. Derek breaks into Stacey Dash’s work locker and plants the medication. The CEO of the hospital fires her on the spot, and Stacey Dash gets REAL Brooklyn on his ass. Hospital security escortStacey Dash out of the building. Sheyla was surprised that her friend lied to her.
Later, Stacey Dash confronts Sheyla on her way to therapy and tries to convince her that Derek set her up. Sheyla says that Stacey Dash is just jealous and ignores her concerns.
Charisma Carpenter is not only a brilliant doctor with glasses, she is a psychologist. Dr. Derek blackmails Charisma Carpenter into helping him manipulate his wife. Charisma Carpenter tries to say no, but Dr. Derek forces her to do his bidding.
Seven months later, Sheyla is VERY pregnant and feeling terrible. She wants to see he own doctor, but Dr. Derek won’t let her see anyone whom he can’t control.
When Grant overhears Dr. Derek on a phone conversation where he incriminates himself, Grant tries to call Sheyla to warn her, but Dr. Derek kills him before he can leave a message. Then, Dr. Derek gets a promotion!
Home alone, Sheyla starts to spiral and calls her friends. They don’t answer, so Sheyla does some investigating and finds a drawer full of medication and the reports about him stealing medication. Dr. Derek catches Sheyla and syringes her. He then has her admitted to the hospital.
Charisma Carpenter doesn’t want to play along and tells Dr. Derek off. But he has her addicted to pain pills, and she can’t live without them. Charisma Carpenter continues to try to brainwash Sheyla, but Sheyla knows Dr. Derek is manipulating everyone and everything around him.
Stacey Dash sneaks into the hospital and breaks Sheyla out. Since they are both nurses in the hospital, this seems pretty plausible. They would be able to escape. Charisma Carpenter even helps them evade Dr. Derek, who is busy dancing down the hospital hallways.
Then he notices that Sheyla has escaped and angrily lashes out at Charisma Carpenter and hits her in the head with a flower vase. She survives and calls the police.
A very pregnant Sheyla backs a bag, and Dr. Derek stops her. He knocks out Stacey Dash and then screams about power. Sheyla pulls a knife on him, and he records her to make her look like she is crazy. Dr. Derek promises to have her committed to a psych ward.
The police show up, and Stacey Dash knocks Dr. Derek out with a cast-iron skillet. Dr. Derek jumps back to life, and Sheyla stabs him. The police seem confused. Derek survives and will go to jail for life.
Sheyla has her baby, and she thanks Stacey Dash for sticking by her and being a true friend. They name the baby Aribella. The end!
STRAY Thoughts
Ewwww, Dr. Derek saying “Good Girl” throughout he movie freaked me out, but also maybe turned me on?
The maternity fashun in this movie!
