Synopsis (via Lifetime)

An investigative reporter gets an exclusive interview with a key witness to the latest in a series of serial killings. Little does she know, her new interview suspect harbors a dangerous obsession.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

True to its name, the movie starts with a moon!

Emily is having an affair with her co-worker, Richard, at her desk, and is getting a promotion to a job in HR. (Which doesn’t seem like the best fit.) Someone attacks her in the parking lot, and it doesn’t look good for Emily. The security gets a call that says, “I am the moon and the light.” The killer tattoos a moon on Emily.

Three months later? This makes no sense. We next meet a new security guard, Zeke. He finds the body on his first week. He is starting a new job and seems to be on the spectrum. (It is not explicitly stated one way or another.) His neighbor, Poppy, is in love with him and wants to watch Castaway Island together forever.

Zeke shows up for work and finds Emily’s body. The police clear Richard and the night guard with security footage. Zeke is their only witness and has had recent road rage issues. Poppy is Zeke’s alibi for the night, so the suspect list for Emily’s murder is slim to none.

A reporter named May wants answers, but she isn’t getting anything from the cops. The Moonlight Murderer was a notorious killer in the area years ago and could be making a comeback, or there is a copycat. Zeke is willing to talk to May, and he is a fan. They have pancakes and go through the events of finding the body. Zeke really wants to be on TV, to impress Poppy, perhaps?

Speaking of Poppy, Zeke blows off their watch party to prep for the interview. He stays up all night watching May’s interviews. He is more than obsessive. Zeke knows everything about the New Moon killer and its victims, and it creeps May out on air.

Zeke takes the bad taping hard and yells at a mirror while slapping himself repeatedly. He gives it a second shot and goes on again after Franco, the video guy, is knocked unconscious. May asks Zeke to give him straight answers and no tangents. Then Zeke talks about going to college and wanting to be a rocket scientist. He loves space, including… THE MOON! Zeke asks May to go on a dinner date with him, but she declines because she is meeting an old college boyfriend, Quentin. Zeke wants to know where and when. He has no boundaries or social cues.

Zeke watches the show with Poppy and notices that May is uncomfortable. She told him that they are never going to happen, and it clicks with him that she isn’t that into him. He smashes things and gets angry.

May goes on her date with the college guy, who clearly hasn’t changed his hairstyle since 2008. VERY EMO BRO. May walks about the Moonlight Killer and draws all the Moon phases. It is an aphrodisiac, I guess, because they make out, while Zeke watches from the shadows in a hoodie. He then follows Quentin and beats him with a Poppy’s tire iron.

Zeke goes to Poppy, his only friend, and she helps calm him down. He talks about liking May, and it is bittersweet because Poppy is obviously in love with him. Poppy tells Zeke she’s liked him since high school. He doesn’t feel the same way and rushes off.

Zeke’s obsession with May is getting dangerous, and he confesses to the Moonlight Murders and is held in police custody. Zeke only wants to talk to May and impress her with his MO. May knows that Zeke is just lying for attention. He does accidentally admit to putting Quentin into a coma for kissing May.

Zeke can’t help but still be obsessed and rushes to May’s house to warn her that the Moonlight Killer is after her. The killer is the police chief, and he had cancer, and his cancer went into remission every time he killed. (Which seems far-fetched. He does have a tumor on his brain.)

The police chief and Zeke wrestle over the knife, and Poppy comes to the rescue with her tire iron. May stabs the police chief, and they are all saved! The moonlight shines in as police pull up on the scene. Zeke dies on site.

THREE MONTHS LATER AGAIN. May gets the story from Poppy, and the show is a ratings success. Poppy is thankful to finally have a friend and plans a tropical vacation, while May goes on a date with Quentin, who has fully recovered!

The end!

STRAY Thought

If you are clearly writing an autistic character, cast an actor who is on the spectrum. Come on, now! It is 2026.

Also known as The Man Who Saw Everything

Was it just me, or did May look like Katy Perry?
