Synopsis (via Lifetime)
A mother, Andrea, suspects foul play after her son’s friend dies at a faculty dinner party hosted by a manipulative psychology professor. The film follows her investigation into the professor’s dangerous, controlling behavior to protect her son.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with Andrea tied up and kidnapped, she tells her captor to just get it over with already!
Cut to one week earlier, to a college campus. A ZADDY professor, Professor Jackson, teaches a class, and I can see why his classes are full. He also has a YouTube channel, so he is cool with the students.
Ethan is a college student, and his mom, Andrea, shows up and embarrasses him. She calls him swol and is glad he has friends. Especially a girl named Emma, but it is platonic. Ethan has conquered a speech impediment and hardly stutters as much as he did when he was growing up.
Professor Jackson throws a party for his top students, which has got to be against the university handbook. Emma and Ethan can’t miss the event, and Andrea invites herself to go along. While getting ready, Andrea notices bruises on Emma’s neck. Emma says she has written a letter to Ethan, friend-zoning him, gently.
The party turns out to be less frat, more sware! Andrea talks with Professor Jackson over cocktails, and they don’t hit it off. He compares Ethan to a chimpanzee, and Andrea retorts with factoids about Female Heyinas being superior to male ones. Andrea also doesn’t hit it off with Professor Jackson’s snobby wife, Nora.
Emma ends up at the bottom of a stairwell after shouting about “keeping the baby” in not-so-many words. The police take statements, and Andrea is immediately suspicious of the party host. Andrea decides to stick around and help her son, whose stutter has returned with a vengeance.
Professor Jackson gives a lecture about Emma in his class, and Andrea listens in. He says something about loving people firmly, and she remembers Emma’s neck bruises. Andrea talks with the TA, who freaks out when Andrea even mentions inappropriate conduct with students.
Andrea won’t let it go and talks to anyone she can about Professor Jackson and Emma’s affair. She does some online research and motherly snooping in Emma’s room. She finds a burner phone and messages the person on the other end, who set up a meeting in a park to discuss. The park meeting turns into an attempted kidnapping. (Honestly, she should have seen it coming.)
Ethan is over his mother’s meddling and goes to the bar to blow off steam. After a beer-spilling incident, Ethan gets into a fight. Professor Jackson steps in and invites Ethan to join him for drinks with his jock students. It doesn’t stop the bullying, though. Ethan gets doxxed on one of Professor Jackson’s YouTube videos.
When Andrea tells Ethan everything she has been uncovering, he doesn’t take it well and kicks her out of his house. Andrea refuses to leave, and it’s like, ‘Mooooommmm, CHILL!”
Andrea can’t chill because people are vandalizing the house, burning Jezzabell into the grass.
Meanwhile, Ethan ends up at Professor Jackson’s house. Nora and the Professor let him stay. Ethan brings Emma’s notebook to write a immeomorium about his friend, or to destroy evidence?
Andrea and the TA go to talk to a former student, who was in Professor Jackson’s inner circle. It was a competitive group that met in a warehouse for some type of fight club or something.
It actually is that with a whole boxing ring and everything. LOL. Andrea walks in on Ethan fighting with his Professor while both are wearing tight tank tops. Ethan feels like he finally fits in with the boyz, but Andrea is horrified that her son is an incel.
Andrea breaks into Professor Jackson’s house and searches his office. She finds a Polaroid of Emma and the Professor kissing. Professor Jackson and Nora argue while Andrea hides under a desk.
Ethan finds Emma’s letter, but even that doesn’t stop him from hanging out with his toxic masculineity bar friends.
Andrea meets with Professor Jackson in his lecture hall, with the TA secretly filming (not on a live stream). They try to expose him, but his fight club friends jump in and kidnap them both. We are back at the beginning of the movie. Andrea and TA Kate are tied up by Professor Jackson.
Ethan rushes in, and he is unbrainwashed now. The police arrest Professor Jackson and his cronies. The police clear Professor Jackson of Emma’s murder.
Andrea is confused and meets with TA Kate, which is random. TA Kate is up for a PhD for her research. As TA Kate blow-dries her hair, Andrea snoops around and finds out that TA Kate took credit for Emma’s research. TA Kate pushed Emma in a fit of rage.
Instead of grabbing a blow dryer, TA Kate grabs a kitchen knife, and the ladies get into a brawl of their own. Who says fight club is just for boys?! They go flying through a sliding glass door, and TA Kate accidentally stabs herself. Whoopsie!
A week later, Ethan and Andrea leave the university and take a semester off. Ethan’s biggest concern is getting enough protein, which means his bro days might not be left behind.

It started off slow bit picked up in the middle and the ending was not what I had expected. I thought the performances were great! There was some quality and a few moments of laughter amongst this crazy storyline. I laughed when the mother thought the coat guy was the professor.
This was like a less successful version of the dateless to dangerous movie from last year with Jodie Sweetin. Covering the topic of incel culture but nonetheless just as great
