Synopsis (via Lifetime)

A blind server at a dark-dining restaurant becomes entangled in a murder investigation when her boss is killed. As a detective works to keep her safe, she must decide who to trust while a killer lurks in the shadows.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

A young woman in a tuxedo top speaks to a group of men in a dimly lit venue, with floral decorations in the background.

Ash and Dani walk the city streets and laugh about life. Ash is losing her vision and walks with a seeing cane. They work at a restaurant, ironically called The Blind Spot, and are unknowingly being followed by a guy in boots.

Group of five men standing together, smiling in a social setting at a bar or nightclub.

A gaggle of detectives celebrates their bachelor friend’s birthday party at The Blind Spot. The restaurant is a place where food is served completely in the dark. Ash is their waitress and walks them through the procedure and assures them she is ACTUALLY BLIND in a carming pre-service speech. Cedric lets loose and actually wears the “Birthday Babe” cowboy hat his friends bought him. Asha and Cedric even bond over their love of old movies and Joan Crawford’s Johnny Guitar. (A movie I need to see, actually!) Cedric is recently divorced and can’t hold his liquor. The throws up all over Ash before calling it a night.

Ash goes home and asks for her AI Assistant Igor to help her around the house. She has many tools to help her and allows her more autonomy. While closing up the restaurant, Ash forgets her keys and walks home alone, only to bump into the guy in boots standing outside.

Close-up of a woman with a concerned expression holding a kitchen knife, set against a dark background with racks.

Andre, a server at the restaurant, stays late, and when Ash goes back to get her keys, she misses all the signs of a struggle. (Because she is blind.) Until she literally trips over Andre’s body and calls 911. She hears the guy in boots and grabs a knife. He is cleaning the crime scene, but leaves before the police arrive.

A man wearing a white cowboy hat with the words 'BIRTHDAY BABE' on it, standing in front of a door. Another figure is partially visible in the background.

Now, Sober, Cedric is on the case as the lead detective. Ash tells Cedric that she heard the killer pop his knuckles and clean with a hospital-grade cleaner. Both clues that the police run with. Cedric apologizes for throwing up on her, and Ash is like, ” Ummm, my friend just died, I’m not trying to flirt with you, bro.

Ash and Dani stay. together for safety, and the restaurant is closed for the weekend. She goes to the police station, and even though she is the blind eyewitness, she wants to empower herself and help with the case. Cedric isn’t keen on the idea and doesn’t see how she could be much help. She calls him an ablist and hightails it out of there.

A woman wearing headphones holds a microphone outdoors, appearing focused and attentive.

At the park, Ash gathers her podcast equipment and hears the guy in boots cracking his knuckles. She is right, he is following her in the park, but she gets hit by a car. Cedric scolds her for putting herself in danger, and Ash assures him she knows what she is doing. Her coworker reminds her that being blind requires a lot of trust, and Ash needs to open up to people who want to help.

A dimly lit interrogation room with two people sitting at a table. One person is holding a drink and appears to be in thought, while the other is writing on a notepad. Cleaning supplies are visible in the background.

The guy in boots continues to follow Ash, and Cedric works with her to figure out the connection. They flirt in the interrogation room, much to Cedric’s partner Guy’s disapproval. Fraternizing with a witness? That is not cool. Cedric doesn’t worry and takes Ash to dinner. Ash opens up about the details of how she went blind. She had Idiopathic Optic Neuritis, and it came on suddenly and randomly. Then they tell blind people jokes and almost make out, but don’t! (Damn! They have cute chemistry.)

Ash has a random sex dream about Cedric. Then she listens to an erotic audiobook.

Close-up of a teal smartphone with a floral-patterned case, featuring three camera lenses, partially obscured by greenery.

There is a random friend that Ash talks with on video chat named JP. They only talk on an app, and he lives in Tennessee. When he starts getting too familiar and even mentions wanting to move to LA to be closer to Ash. Ash blocks his ass instantly and accuses him of being a chaser. I’m impressed with her decisiveness. JP later shows up at her work and cracks his knuckles. Ash is sure he is the killer.

Detectives bring in Dani as a suspect because there is mounting evidence against her. Evidence that was planted? Cedric and Ash get into an argument, and Guy gives Ash a ride home. He walks her to the door and tells her that Cedric is a good cop, but not the best man to date, and things wouldn’t work out.

A woman with wet hair relaxing with her eyes closed under soft, red lighting.

Guy is all up in Ash’s business now and takes JP into custody next. He tells Ash to be careful, and she installs cameras before taking a shower in the red light. (Actually, a red light shower is genius.) The Boots Guy breaks into the house and attacks her in the shower. It is very Psycho, except Ash has a stun gun in her shower caddie. She takes The Boots Guy down and calls 911.

A woman with dark hair and a man with a beard lay close together in a dimly lit room, both appearing relaxed and intimate.

For safety, Cedric invites Ash to spend the night at his place, and her audio book fantasies come to life. After sexy time, Cedric takes a shower, and Ash looks for a phone charger. She instead finds the clean product used by The Boots Guy. She also finds THE BOOTS! Ash rushes to the restaurant and calls Guy for help. He tells her to wait for backup.

A person wearing a dark jacket and cap stands in a dimly lit room, smiling while talking, with a blue curtain and wall lights in the background.

Of course, Guy is the REAL Boots Guy. The boots and cleaner are regulation cop items. Guy meets Ash in the restaurant, but she turns off the lights on him and uses the dark as an asset. She knows how to navigate the restaurant in the dark, unlike Guy.

Ash outsmarts Guy and shoots him. Cedric and the police arrive at the scene. Guy and Andre were dating the same woman, Samantha, and the initial murder was over a new relationship. Guy was covering up his crimes, and Ash was too close to the truth.

A woman in a maroon top and a colorful strap holds a paper while looking down at a man with a beard and a black shirt, also gazing down. They appear to be engaged in a serious conversation.

Cedric and Ash don’t see how they can have a romance now! Cedric quotes Johnny Guitar to her, and they decide to give it a shot. He even walks her home, awwww!

STRAY Thought

James Chrosniak was in TWO Lifetme movies this week and was significantly better in this one.

The writing in this was excellent.

While I normally ding a movie for casting a seeing actor instead of a visually impaired one, it was clear that the production took steps to include visually impaired actors in supporting roles and on set.

  1. I knew it was him all along and she would’ve picked up on Cedric long before.
JP was a red herring. I wasn’t sure of their relationship until she blocked him. I kind of felt it was a bit rude that she just hung up on him and blocked him. Would’ve been kinder if she was honest with him and told him she was flattered he felt that way, but that isn’t what kind of relationship it was and if he couldn’t respect that, she would then block him. How could she blame him for falling for her, she relied on him for a lot and at all times of the day. I did appreciate the focused they put on abled ones. I knew about the gov’t benefits because I was a huge part of the deaf community for many years. It was a huge deal and big news in the community when a couple got married. Sacrificing benefits for love. Overall, not a bad movie. They should focus on different communities like this more often

  2. Thank you for this
Great review. I was enjoying the movie and then got cut off because it was no longer free
Just had to find out who the killer was
Usually I can tell right away
I was glad to find this review.
