Synopsis (via Hallmark)
Under the guise of a journalist, Campbell has a chance to get to know her biological father for the first time — without him ever knowing who she really is. As she spends time with him and his family, as well as with the town’s record keeper, she realizes that families are messy, wonderful things. In the end, Campbell must decide if she’s going to keep her identity a secret or reveal the truth to her father — a decision that will change their family Christmas forever.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Campbell is a Dallas-based airplane magazine journalist working with her friend Mary to develop an original Christmas story. They have a demanding (and handsome) boss who wants a story that captures the readers’ hearts. It is gonna take a Christmas miracle to come up with a story.
Campbell gets a voicemail from a woman named Jennifer. She is looking for her husband’s daughter. Campbell was adopted and decides to call back. Jennifer tells Campbell that her father, Everett, will be the town’s new Pere Noel (a cajun tradition) for the bayou lighting. She initially declines the reunion request initally but changes her mind when her boss realizes there is a potential story there. Campbell makes an improvised pitch about Everette and his Christmas traditions in Sorento, Louisiana.
Campbell tells her adoptive parents, and they worry that she will get hurt if she makes the trip. She goes anyway, and it is a little awkward at first. Jennifer asks Campbell to keep her identity a secret and tell Everett when she is ready. Campbell will not be staying with the family. She will also be staying with a neighbor named Jackson.
Campbell meets her half-sisters Mary Margaret (a social media nerd) and Amelia (Hallmark spunky kid.)
SPEAKING OF NERDS. Campbell runs into Jackson, who wears nerdy glasses to hide how hot he is. They are partnered together for some Christmas thing. IDK!
Jackson brings Campbell some coffee in the morning, so they can work on researching the town’s history. He learns the secret that Campbell is keeping and confronts her about it. She tells Jackson that she is scared to ask Everette why he gave her up.
Campbell bonds with her family without telling them who she is. She even babysits her half-sisters, who think she is the coolest girl. Campbell feels like she is lying and calls her parents back home for advice. They tell her to wait for when the time feels right.
Somehow, Campbell ends up in a bush and overhears Everette talking to Jennifer about missing his daughter.
At the big reveal of Pere Noel, Campbell joins the family in calling him out of the bayou. When Everette makes it to the crowd, he makes a speech about parenting and dedicates it to his family. Campbell may have felt left out, but she has a budding romance with Jackson to distract her. He also supports her decision to tell Everette.
Campbell finally musters the courage to talk to her father and tell him she is his daughter. She is about to tell him when they are interrupted for a photo by local reporters. ONLY family. Campbell decides she doesn’t want to ruin their family because she has her own family back home.
Jackson oversteps and tells Campbell that she can’t leave the family behind.
Campbell shows up Christmas morning with gifts for everyone. She tells Everette who she really is, and he leaves abruptly… to get the letters he wrote her. They all cry and hug.
Side Note
I think Jaicy Elliot is a perfect fit for Hallmark.
