Heidi Heidelberg receives the dream opportunity to sell her beautiful, handmade glass ornaments at the prestigious Heidelberg Christmas Market in Germany. While there, she meets Lukas, a local artisan who helps her reconnect with her lost heritage. Starring Ginna Claire Mason and Frédéric Brossier.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins at a glass-blowing studio that specializes in Christmas Ornaments. Heidi is the artist and wants her ornaments to go to the next level. She works year-round and wishes she had more to show for it. Heidi recently applied to be featured in a German Christmas Market in her Oma’s hometown of Heidelberg. Her Oma pulls some strings and gets her granddaughter in, and she has a friend with a cottage for her to stay in.
Heidi ships her ornaments with some sketchy shipping company called UPS. (Not THAT one, another one.) Then she is in Germany at the Weinhachtmart, viewing her booth. Heidi takes a cab to the wrong address and has to drag her bags up a very steep hill for miles.
A man on a bike and wearing a turtleneck asks Heidi if she is okay. His name is Lukas, and her offers to give her a hand. His house turns out to be the one she is staying at. Lucky for her (and us), the family speaks English! Lucka’s sister, Theresa, married an American soldier. The family is charming, and they share their Christmas traditions. (They even have a stocking for her, which is sweet.)
Customers are not into Heidi’s American sales tactics at the Christmas market. Lukas tells her to go for the soft sell. Like, so soft that she doesn’t even stay at her booth and enjoys the market with Theresa.
Lukas is a woodworker who is too shy to show Heidi his work since she is such a good artist. He agrees to help Heidi pick up her shipment from the post office so she can begin to fulfill orders. The shipment is in another Iceland, and UPS messed it up due to customs issues.
With no ornaments to sell, Heidi and Lukas visit a castle where Heidi’s relatives built the columns. Lukas shares that he feels overwhelmed by taking over the family business. Something about Heidi’s encouragement starts to inspire him.
Lukas and Heidi go to a church together, and he calls her his muse. Heidi agrees that they have a special connection. They work on a list that Oma made of things she remembers from her youth. Hiedi talks to her Oma and tells her how special Lukas is.
TIME FOR A MONTAGE!
Heidi sings with Lukas, and it is lovely. He gifts her the woodwork. The family also gives her a Christmas tree so she feels more at home.
The shipment finally arrives, but the boxes look beat up. The ornaments are all broken, and Heidi has a breakdown for letting all those people down. Her dreams are literally shattered.
Heidi packed up her things, and Lukas spoke with her in German. It shows how far she has come since arriving. He leaves her some ornaments, and Heidi cries real tears. In a moment of inspiration, Heidi took the colorful glass shards and put them on the woodwork that Lukas made.
With Lukas’ family’s help, they work making holiday glass mosaic artwork. They are a hit and in high demand. There was so much demand that Heidi applied for the market for next Christmas, and it was accepted immediately. Lukas and Heidi celebrate with a kiss.
Oma shows up and buys the last art piece. She meets Lukas and approves.
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Never seen any of these actors before, but thought they were all wonderful.
