Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When Julia suspects her dental surgeon husband is having an affair–she works to obtain proof before she can initiate a divorce, otherwise risk losing control of the charity they’ve built together. Partnering with the other woman’s husband, Julia soon finds herself romantically involved–unaware her own husband and his mistress are plotting to kill them. Gina Vitori and Justin Berti star (2025).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Inspired by actual events.

Teeth are pivotal to the plot.

Julia Morgan is a successful non-profit founder/writer who is afraid of dental work. It’s odd because her husband, Peter, is a dentist. She is even featured in his new marketing campaign to entice more investors. The pitch doesn’t go as planned, but Peter’s too-sexy assistant/Julia’s BFF, Leslie, books celebratory drinks. Leslie invites her husband, Mark, and is TOTALLY not hooking up with her best friend’s husband.

Low key, my fav Lifetime actress.

Julia feels her husband IS cheating and accuses him of flirting with the hostess. Peter apologizes for giving the wrong impression and explains that the hostess is an old patient. Then he leaves suddenly to help a patient with a tooth emergency.

It doesn’t calm her suspicions, and she follows Peter to a hotel. It is there where the worst fears are confirmed, and we all already knew it was happening. Her best friend, Leslie, is sleeping with her husband. Julia freezes and watches them make out. She is surprised when Leslie’s husband, Mark, rushes into the lobby and tries to follow his cheating spouse into the hotel elevator, but is kicked out.

Mark and Julia go to a diner to commemorate their unfaithful spouses. The question is, now, what are they going to do about it? Julia has all her assets invested in the foundation and will lose everything in the divorce. Mark will lose his grandparents’ house. They agree to work together to build enough proof of an affair so divorce proceedings can go their way. They will have to pretend everything is normal until then.

Peter and Leslie admit they took a risk meeting at a hotel and wonder if their significant others are onto them. They are also keeping their financial struggles a secret. Peter’s practice is going under.

Julia and Peter are suspicious of each other, look through their phones, and ask probing questions. Technically, they are both sneaking around. I have trouble concentrating because Justin Berti is shirtless for most of this movie, so far.

Leslie and Julia go to a workout class together. While Leslie showers, Julia goes through her friend’s bag and finds birth control, AND hacks into her phone with Peter’s Birthday. Julia calls Mark and tells him the news. He is pissed.

You expect me to read, movie!?!?

While Peter is out golfing, Julia enters his office and finds a secret cell phone. There are texts from over a year ago. Then Peter enters the office and uses his cell phone to call Leslie and tell her he loves her, while Julia hides and covers her mouth.

Mark and Julia decide to hire a professional, ME! (OMG, I would kill this role.) The PI asks them if they are sure they want proof because they can’t unsee what he will find. They say yes and send him to a getaway Leslie and Peter have planned. The photos seem almost perfect as if Leslie and Peter know they are being watched. (Because they do, they see the PI with his camera.)

Peter and Leslie follow the PI to his home and break in to get the footage. Peter uses a syringe to sedate the PI and delete the photos. (Luckily, he saved backups on a flash drive.) Just as they are about to leave, Julia and Mark show up to meet the PI. Peter and Leslie hide while some silly music plays.

Things get serious when the PI dies from a bad reaction to the drug in the syringe. Peter and Leslie move the body and try to cover up the unintentional murder. Is that Manslaughter?

Julia and Mark also break into the PI’s house and find the flash drive. They review the flash drive’s contents and chug whiskey while watching the footage. Then, they hook up while emailing the tapes to their lawyers. (They don’t know that Peter and Leslie are watching them and cut off the WiFi.)

Peter and Leslie break in to stop the evidence of their infidelities from getting out. Peter syringes Mark and gives him less than the fatal dose he gave the PI, and Leslie smashes Julia’s face with a flower vase. They plan to flip the switch and make it look like Mark and Julia were the ones having an affair.

They take their unconscious spouses to a remote landfill and dig a grave to throw them in. Pete plans to sedate them and bury them alive.

I told you teeth come into play!

Julia isn’t going down like that and uses her chompers to bite through her duct-taped wrists. She tries to make a run for it, but passes out. She wakes up and is locked in a trashed fridge or something. She uses dental floss (that Peter gave her) to saw through the strap that holds the fridge door shut. Then she unburies Mark and saves him.

Free, but dirty, actually less dirty than you would think… Mark and Julia must get revenge. Well, Mark wants revenge. Julia wants to let the police handle it.

Mark confronts Peter and Leslie with a hammer. He screams at them for trying to kill him and bury him alive, which is valid. They all beat each other up, but Julia prevails.

The police have CCTV footage of Peter and Leslie killing the PI and moving the body. It is enough to get the divorce proceedings underway, but honestly, Julia and Mark should have just called Laura Wasserman.

Nice bookend?

The movie ends with Julia facing her fears and sitting in the dentist’s chair.

STRAY Thoughts

Julia just wanted to be a reporter and live her life.

The title should be DENTAL SURGEON’S WIFE.

The tone was a little all over the place, so when we jumped to murder, I wasn’t sure what to think.

  1. What was up with the upbeat hallmark romcom type background music during the murder scene? So strange. Other than that solid movie, 7.8/10

  2. She is also one of my fave Lifetime actresses. This was really good. Those cheating piles of trash went from 5 to 100. How do you jump to premeditated murder that quickly?! They are way better than me. The cheating and embezzlement was one thing, but attempted murder….
