Recap/Wine Thoughts

Kate, who has REALLY long hair, meets with her friend Hailey at a bar. Hailey hooks her up with a job. As they drink wine and celebrate, they switch gears and hide when Kate’s immature/rageful ex-boyfriend, Matt, enters the restaurant. Is he stalking her?

Kate gets the lay of the land and a corner office at her new job! Her boss, Eric, already asks Kate to work nights and weekends. He introduces Kate to the office gossip, Janet, who dislikes Eric and is jealous of the new hire. While Kate works late, someone cuts the lights off on her. It is the cleaning staff, Mara, and her son Stephan. They seem friendly, and Maria even invites Kate to dinner with her. Both Maria and Eric are way too into finding out if Kate is single for my comfort! (Mind yo business!)

When Kate’s car is in the shop, Eric offers her a ride home. He asks them to use the bathroom when they get to the apartment, and they are both surprised to find Matt in it getting his things. Matt wants to get back with Kate but worries since she has a big boy job and is no longer a waitress, she won’t be into him. Stephan, Maria’s son, also asks Kate out on a date, and it gets him in hot water with HR. Eric fires Stephen and pisses off Maria. She keeps an eye on Eric and films him coming onto Kate. Kate doesn’t want to file a report because she needs the job. Kate is attacked in the parking lot after work by someone hiding in her back seat.

Hailey becomes concerned when she hasn’t heard from Kate, and no one has seen her at work. She should be worried because Kate is locked up and chained to a bed in someone’s basement.

A detective arrives and comes up with a list of people of interest: Eric, Stephan, and Matt—everyone except Maria, the obvious kidnapper. Maria shows up to police the video of the sexual harassment, and Eric is bumped to the top of the list. When the police want to interview Stephan, Maria joins and answers for her son. The detectives rule Stephan out as a suspect and focus on Eric.

That proves to be misguided. Eric might be a jerk, but Maria is determined to set her son Stephan up with Kate. Stephan watches Kate in the basement while Maria calls the shots. Kate tries to escape by sweet talking Stephan, but Maria stops Kate before she can get away.

Maria lays it down for Kate. She admits to framing Eric for Kate’s murder. Since she is a cleaning lady, people just give her access to their homes and offices, making it easy for Maria and Stephan to lay the groundwork for their elaborate plan. Realizing she is alone and no one is coming for her, Kate agrees to go along with Maria’s plan for her and Stephan to be together.

Kate gets to know more about Stephan and learns that he has been severely abused and neglected for years. He is (almost) as much a prisoner as Kate. Kate explains that it is never too late to change his situation.

Maria takes Kate out of the basement and shows her the nursery where they will raise Stephan’s baby. Kate is like, ” Hell no!” and says she will “fight to the death” before she has his baby. Kate tries to make another escape but just gets put back in the basement. (The only difference is that this time, Kate has bobby pins in her pockets and uses them to free herself.)

Matt is back; he tells Eric that he sucks and roughs him up in a parking lot. Then Matt goes to Stephan and Maria’s house. He sneaks in and finds the nursery with Kate’s bracelet on the table. He texts Hailey and confronts Stephen. Maria hits Matt in the back of the head and kills him. She calls the police and says Matt was an intruder and she was just defending herself.

Hailey goes to the police with Matt’s text. The detectives need a warrant to search Maria’s house. The detective wants to ask Stephan some questions and finds a hidden room downstairs. The room is for Stephan’s drums, and Kate is nowhere to be seen. (Or heard. She pounds on the walls but is in a second basement UNDER the basement.)

Stephan brings Kate up to “make a baby.” Maria tells Kate that they are a family and they love her. The house will become hers, and all she has to do is pop out a baby and raise it while under lock and key. Kate takes her moment and grabs a knife, stabbing Maria. Then she takes Stephan out but feels bad about it.

The police show up and pat themselves on the back for a job well done? But was it really?

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

This boss never hears of “Me Too?” WTF!

As an actor, I would hate to play a kidnap victim.
