Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When Katie started dating her divorced neighbor, she was prepared to endure a round of Maple Street gossip about their relationship. But when a mysterious stalker starts harassing her, she soon realizes that she’s facing a threat far more deadly than a few whispered jeers, especially when her new beau’s ex turns up dead. Stars Ali Liebert, and Matthew MacCaull (2024).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts off chipper and happy, which is unusual for Lifetime. We see husbands and wives lovingly coming home from work or returning from vacation—typical scenes of suburbia.

Then we meet Dina, who has a drawer full of pills, a young teen couple sneaking into a bedroom, and a man secretly hitting his flask while he hides from his wife. Things are not what they seem on Maple Street. (Also, this music is terrible! Please make it stop!)

There is a neighborhood, and Katie and Scott are the newest couple on the block. They were previously married to other people, making the other couples insecure. Even Scott’s ex-wife, Hazel, is at the party. Katie isn’t concerned about the other women on the block because she is successful in her own right. Scott tells her not to worry about everyone else because he loves her. (Aww?) Then they go upstairs and put on full PJs to snuggle under the covers as someone watches from the bushes.

The following day, a mysterious package arrives, and it is a ransom letter that reads, “I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!! This makes Katie super paranoid, and she sees the person in the backyard at night. Scott and Katie go outside to investigate and find Jake hitting the flask in the dark. They all laugh it off.

Katie can’t laugh off being attacked in her home by a masked woman while getting a snack. This time, they call the police. Katie decides to come clean and tell Scott about the ransom letter, and Scott is convinced it is Hazel. (Meanwhile, Hazel just wants to enjoy a martini with a twist.)

An Ice Cream man shows up, and this is when Hazel is frozen in the popsicle freeze. I was Like, WTF. (This movie is apparently part of a mini-series, which may explain the odd tone and character development lag.) Finishing this was quite a chore for me!

At Hazel’s funeral, the neighbors are talking mad trash.

Alexis and Archer have a hard time with their mother dying and everything and having to move in with their dad and Katie. The kids look through their dad’s files when their new parents (Katie is NOT their stepmom!) go out for a dinner date. They find out Katie has been married before.

Katie isn’t making friends in the neighborhood and takes a shower and finds “I KNOW WHO YOU ARE” written on the steamed-up mirror. (We’ve seen this in I Know What You Did Last Summer. And it was done better!) The detective questions Katie and Matthew. She takes a DNA swab from Katie. The results come back and Katie’s hair is found on Hazel’s body. (EYE ROLL!) Katie and Scott theorize who could have killed Hazel and bring up many people. I have no idea who they are talking about.

Katie goes full-on detective and follows a woman who looks like Hazel to a motel. She is married to the flask guy, Jake, and sleeping with a guy with a “for sale” sign in the house. Katie calls the detective to expose this apparently scandalous detail. The lady admits to being the female attacker because she thought Katie was sleeping with Martin. (IDK! IDK who anyone in this movie is.)

More housewives gossip while drinking coffee on the curb.

Charlie, the gardener, keeps popping up, and he must be the killer since he is very random. I wish he would get to killing more people because this cast is out of control for no reason. Kate also starts to suspect Charlie is the one who is harassing her. Katie looks into Charlie and learns his REAL name is Jim.

It is Jim. His parents were duped by Katie’s ex-husband, who committed fraud on a bunch of people. Jim blames Katie and chloroforms her and locks her in her garage. Alexis saves her step mom and the detective shoots Jim dead.

Katie and Scott get married and the other couples watch while making snide comments.

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

The tone of this movie was ridiculous. Very not Lifetime and more TBS.

This is part of a three-part series, and I hope that Lifetime hasn’t picked up all three films.

  1. Regarding your very last sentence, I’m not sure Karis Cameron is related to Kirk Cameron. She is Canadian. Kirk has 6 kids, none named Karis, according to Wiki. I assume that’s what you meant. As a needless aside, Kirk Cameron is vile.

  2. Pour it up! I liked it but maybe because I was a fan of desperate housewives and it kind of reminded me of it. I did have trouble keeping the names straight and who was sleeping with who.

  3. I absolutely love your recaps on Lifetime movies! They’re entertaining and funny! And your right, the music in the beginning of Lies and Ex wives….ect was terrible!!! 😂🤣
Always look forward to reading your posts!
