Inspired by the true story of a woman who is buried alive by her ex and miraculously digs her way out before searching for her son who she fears may be next. When her ex-husband, Victor, is released from prison, Alicia knows she has to do whatever she can to keep him away from herself and their son, Malcom. Victor manages to find and confront Alicia, and demands they get back together. She refuses, and the next thing she knows, she’s underground with layers of dirt being piled on top of her by her abusive ex-husband. She’s facing her biggest fear: being buried alive. After heroically clawing her way out of the grave Victor thought she’d never escape, she starts her search for her son Malcom, who she knows isn’t safe as long as Victor is nearby and alive. Stars Eva Marcelle, Tyler Lepley, Jaeden White, Christie Laverette, Cocoa Brown (2024)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with Eva Marcille legitimately buried underground and looking like she has been through hell. She plays Alicia, a warehouse manager who has found herself in one of the most terrifying situations imaginable.

Cut to two days earlier. We see Alicia checking inventory at work and looking a lot less dirty. Her co-worker Jo invites her out for pina coladas, but Alicia declines. Alicia has been keeping a low profile for years and even changed her last name to void her ex-who-is-in-prison-boyfriend, Victor.
Victor is out sooner than anyone expects, and he is violent and angry. First, he hits up an old friend named Stevie G, demanding money. He takes the man’s truck and some jewelry to get back on his feet quickly. He looks for Alicia and tracks her BFF Kam, not knowing Alicia is lying low. (This man is fresh out of jail and has binoculars!?!) He steals Kam’s phone and finds Alicia.
Alicia picks up her pre-teen son, who has a lot of attitude, and reminds him about safety. Malcolm doesn’t know just how dangerous his dad is because they never had a relationship. Alicia goes even so far as to put a tracker in some new sneakers she buys him. (Which is….. SNEAKy)

Victor finds his son on a basketball court and talks to his son. Malcolm is surprised when Victor walks onto the court and tells him he is his father. They shake hands, and Malcolm is so happy he shows Victor where they live. Alicia comes home and is horrified to see Victor is out of jail and in her home. He promises he is a changed man. Victor has gifts, but Alicia kicks him out anyway. (She actually doesn’t, but she should!)
Alicia, worried she will upset Victor, goes with his plan to go out for a family dinner. She calls Kam and tells her she needs help while changing to go out for dinner. She is trapped.

At dinner, Victor tells Alicia that she has done a fantastic job raising their son. He tells her not to be afraid of him. He has no expectations of her getting back together with him. This is good because Alicia reminds him of the time he broke his nose and held a knife to her neck. When he sees that Alicia is not wearing her wedding ring, he angrily squeezes her hand. Malcolm has no idea about the abusive past. Victor is ready to move back in, but Alicia tells him she wants to take things slow and not confuse Malcolm. She plays the part that Victor wants her to do. Once she is safely locked behind closed doors, she has an emotional breakdown.
Alicia tells Malcolm to pack his bags because they are leaving. She explains that Victor is dangerous, but Malcolm doesn’t want to hear any of it. Alicia packs the bags anyway and takes them to the car. She is surprised to find Victor camped outside. Waiting.
Victor kidnaps Alicia and brings her back to his motel. He tells her that he went to therapy in prison, and they had him on medication. But he is off them now, enraged that Alicia was trying to escape. Things get extremely violent and Victor ties Alicia up in the bathroom. Then he goes to her house, grabs a shovel, and tells Malcolm that they are all going to be a family together.
To make it look like Alicia walked out on Malcolm this time, Victor buries Alicia alive. The scene is long, drawn out, and disturbing.
Kam Beomes is worried that she can’t get a hold of Alicia or Malcolm. She rushes to their house and tries to get Malcolm to leave with her. She is too late because Victor is back. He knocks Kam unconscious, and Malcolm realizes that he is in trouble. Malcolm puts on his sneakers, the ones with the tracker, before he goes off with Victor.

Alicia, luckily, is buried with a set of keys. She has a flashlight and keys to pry open the wooden slats and dig her way out. The dirt is wet and malleable. Alicia makes her way out, but it is like working out of quicksand.
Alicia comes across the land owner, who Victor found and killed first; she takes the truck and rushes to her co-worker’s house, which is close by. Jo helps Alicia with her cuts and bruises while Alicia tracks her son. Then Alicia hits the road.
They all end in a church in the woods. It just so happens to be the church where Alicia and Victor were married. (Till death do us part and all that.) The police show up just in time, and Victor goes out with his gun. Suicide by cop.
Malcolm is freed from the car, and he runs into his mother’s arms. Alicia cries as she holds him and tells her son that they are finally safe.

A few months later, Alicia tries to move on and even starts dating. She continues to carry a flashlight on her key chain, though!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
I’m not sure about Alicia dating at the end of this movie; I’d be happy if she didn’t need a man! But on the other hand, I can see that it is empowering to have the character move on with her life. What do you think?
Not as many kills as I thought there would be.
Eva Marcille is my FAVORITE America’s Next Top Model winner and I’m not surprised she is great here. Eva the Diva has always had star appeal, I’m happy she is flexing her acting skills at Lifetime. Looking forward to whatever is next for her.
