On an unexpected layover in mid-December, Annie Lane and Dave Weeks meet as strangers in a beautiful hotel all decorated for the holidays. It’s love at first sight, and they end up having a magical night of sharing hopes, dreams…and a perfect kiss. But when they fail to exchange numbers and miss each other the next morning, Annie and Dave fly back to Chicago with no easy way to track the other one down. The only clues they have are those shared about plans for the upcoming holiday season, and the two embark on separate quests to find one another. Along the way, insightful wisdom shared during their time together leads Annie and Dave to make important changes in their lives, leading them both to find ways of making this Christmas special for themselves, their families, and their loved ones. Starring Autumn Reeser and Niall Matter.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Annie and Dave spend a romantic night together and promise to meet in the morning. They met in December and didn’t exchange contact information, and planned to ride to the airport together.
Annie leaves a Post-it with her number at the front desk, but Dave oversleeps and misses his flight. They only have a first name and nothing else to go on, just random tidbits from their romantic evening.
The movie flashes back to the couple’s first meeting, to their stranded holiday travel, and to the current day, where everything triggers a flashback. Not my favorite format.
We learn Dave is in Finance, is organized, and has a dead dad. Annie loves fashion and learned to sew from her grandmother, who is also dead. Annie tells Dave that dreams don’t pay the bills. Dave disagrees because his dream apparently was to be a Fiance Bro.
Annie and her best friend search for Dave in Chicago. They go to EVANSTON for crying out loud.
ALL THEY DO THE WHOLE MOVIE IS TALK ABOUT THE MISSED CONNECTION WITH LOVED ONES. GO PLACES. MISS EACH OTHER. OVER AND OVER.
People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a Lifetime was a line in this movie.
Dave and Annie find each other at Church, and if this movie had leaned into the Jesus of it all from the get-go. I would have respected it more. I also would have LOLed if they made out in the Church.
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
The leads are great, but the script was not.
The protagonist telling their meet-cute the whole movie was annoying as hell.
