Synopsis (via Lifetime)
When Zoe wakes up to find her husband murdered beside her in bed with no memory of anyone entering their home, she becomes the prime suspect. To clear her name, she must uncover the real killer and stop them before they finish what they started.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Jade is packing her bags while on the phone with her friend Maude. Her husband Craig is controlling and abusive, so it is time to go. It is a known statistic that the most dangerous time for a woman in an abusive relationship is when she leaves. Before she can make it down the stairs, someone sneaks up behind her and pushes Jade down the steps, sending her to her grave.
Cut to housewife/baker Lorilie, who is upset after her friend’s death. Oh wait, never mind, she had a miscarriage. Her husband, Parker, is off to work, looking hot in his business attire.
Loriliie brings her friend Ella and Jackie cookies, and their daughters are going with Ella’s husband Dean to give the friend a girls’ night. Lorilie doesn’t want to ruin the vibes with her pregnancy struggles, but Ella has been her BFF since middle school and would understand. Jackie is a newer friend and sometimes in the third wheel.
An intruder with trendy highlights bursts in during the middle of the day and grabs Loriliie, demanding to see Maddy. (Jackie’s daughter) and the friends come to her defense. Someone grabs a frying pan, and they beat him down. Ella goes to call an ambulance, but Jackie stops her. The intruder is her ex-baby daddy, Craig. Well, he WAS, because he’s dead.
The three friends decide that having a dead body in the house would be incriminating, even though he broke in. After some half-baked rationalization, they decide the best idea is to bury the body in the woods. Before they cover him up, they look through his phone and see missed calls from someone named Troy. They use their cop show logic and decide to keep the most unusual girls’ night to themselves.
As Parker leaves to play golf, he sees Loriliie come in covered in dirt. She comes up with a lie about planting roses in the garden. Loriliie is going to need her story straight because Cop Corey is investigating a man lurking in the neighborhood and wants to review their doorbell camera footage. Jackie’s footage has EVERYTHING on it, so she says her camera is broken and then deletes it. Meanwhile, Loriliie’s camera pings Parker when Cop Corey heads over to look at the footage, and Parker thinks they are having an affair.
While Parker is at a concert, Loriliie wakes up to find an intruder in her house. Loriliie chases after them, and they slam a door in her face. Parker comes home from a night out and finds his wife on the floor. She says she just got dizzy and needs to go to Jackie’s.
It is clear Jackie is hiding SOMETHING because she knows the intruder was Craig’s brother and is receiving letters from a woman named Maude addressed to Bri. Jackie has a drawer full of them and a picture folded in half, with the woman from the beginning of the movie cut out. Seems like Jackie has a secret past and probably kidnapped Maddy from her actual parents.
Loriliie tries to loop in her BFF, Ella, but Ella thinks her friend is crazy and no longer fun.
So, Loriliie goes to Maude’s house by herself after taking a picture of the address from the letters. Troy, Craig’s brother, is outside of the house, and Loriliie has second thoughts about the whole thing. Instead, she does late-night lurking, like jumping into the back of Jackie’s truck and unintentionally third-wheeling it on a meet-up with Ella.
Loriliie decides to come clean to Cop Corey about everything. She even shows the police where she buried the body, but there is nothing at the site. Loriliie is sure Ella and Jackie moved the body. Cop Corey is worried that Loriliie is having a mental breakdown. He offers to drop Loriliie off at home, and Parker gets jealous again.
Back at Maude’s house, Loriliie is surprised to find a picture of her and Ella. Jackie’s real name is Bri and took custody of Maddie after Jade fell down the stairs. As she leaves, Troy gives her his number because he knows something is not right.
Something isn’t right with Troy because he follows Loriliie to her garage and attacks her, demanding to know what happened to his brother. Parker comes home just in time and beats Troy up with a golf club. Loriliie explains that she isn’t having an affair; she just committed murder. NBD!
Then Ella and Loriliie argue about things they have been suppressing from one another. Loriliie finally comes clean about her miscarriage, and it is all water under the bridge. Ella tells Loriliie that they aren’t going to go to the police and will handle it the same way they handled Craig. Loriliie tries to escape and runs into a wall, knocking herself unconscious. (My girl needs to get some glasses or something!)
Ella ties Loriliie and calls Jackie/Bri for backup. The mothers say they are doing whatever they need to, to protect themselves and their kids. Troy killed Jade and was going to kill Jackie/Bri next, so she ran away with Maddy to start a new life. Loriliie frees herself and grabs a knife. She manages to escape to her car and drives to the police station.
Meanwhile, Ella and Jackie/Bri are held hostage by Troy, who is out for revenge for his brother and demands to know where they hid Craig’s body. He takes them into the woods and forces them to dig up Craig at gunpoint.
Loriliie is back from the police station, with no police or backup. Her big plan is to sneak up on Troy and shout “LEAVE THEM ALONE!” Not the best idea. Troy ends up shooting her and taking off. Jackie/Bri chases after him, and Ella jumps in too. They all wrestle him to the ground until the police and Maude arrive. Oh great, Parker is there too, just in time to not help.
One year later, Ella and Loriliie have babies at the same time and have buried the hatchet. Jackie/Bri is still in the neighborhood too. They are all on probation and should probably be in jail.
STRAY Thought
When the movie handles domestic abuse like a plot point and doesn’t even provide resources, that’s an automatic “Put a Cork In It.”
