After Angie’s sister, Sydney, is brutally attacked, she must fight to protect her niece, Alice, from dark family secrets and a killer determined to claim her.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with a cute blonde in a blanket watching a TV movie of a girl running through the woods, and it is all a little too meta for me. IS SHE ME?!?!? The girl’s name is Alice, and she calls her mother worried that someone is in the house. Alice ends up being ok, it is just her Aunt Angie playing a prank. The mother, Sydney, isn’t so lucky and is hit by a car in the parking lot, and ends up in a coma.
Aunt Angie worries the car accident was intentional and asks the police and co-workers questions to figure out what is going on. Sydney learns from a hot nurse named Simon that she was meeting with her long-lost baby daddy, Jordan. (Who everyone presumed was dead.) Aunt Angie tells her mother, but keeps Jordan’s survival a secret from Alice.
Simon is the first to go. Angie is on the phone and helpless to save him. Then she overhears her mother attempting to pay off Jordan. She has been paying him to stay away, yet she continues to lie and keep secrets.
Meanwhile, Jordan is in hiding, and his mother randomly moves in. Jordan has a slew of assault charges and criminal charges. He remembers building a snowman with his sister, named Chloe. The memories are bad because when they were kids, Chloe was hit by a car while playing, and Jordan blamed himself. This led to a life of self-medicating with booze and drugs.
The movie unveils the plot through random flashbacks, and it’s work to keep the pieces together. This is the type of Lifetime movie you shouldn’t really multitask.
Alice gets a text from a blocked number that says, “They will be together soon.” Then Alice overhears her Aunt and Grandmother talking. Learning that her father is alive and working at an auto repair shop. Naturally, she visits him, and he wins her over with a journal of unsent letters he wrote to Alice, turning Alice against her grandmother. Alice then lies in bed with her comatose mother and begs her to wake up and explain everything to her.
Aunt Angie talks to Alice and tries to explain WHY her grandmother lied. There isn’t any good reason.
Jordan’s mom and Sydney/Angie’s mom have a tense, but vague conversation.
Sydney wakes up from her coma, and maybe now we will get some answers. Sydney turns out to know nothing.
But then Alice is kidnapped! (By Jordan’s mother.) They go to a cabin in the woods where she locks her granddaughter in a creepy pink room. Somehow, Jordan has no idea what his mother is up to or that she is trying to frame her son for kidnapping Alice. I guess because he neglected his sister, and she blames him for her death.
Billie is the next to go because she could provide an alibi for Jordan and ruin everything!
Apparently, Jordan’s mom has been stalking Alice for YEARS!!! She views Alice as a replacement for Chloe.
Aunt Angie and Jordan start to piece things together. Just in time to save Alice and stop Jordan’s mom from killing someone else. They go to the house where Jordan grew up and find Alice in Chloe’s undisturbed childhood room.
Jordan creates a distraction to cause his mother to search for him through the snowy woods, while Aunt Angie frees Alice. The mother is arrested, and everyone is saved!
We do get that thing where we see Jordan’s mom in the loony bin writing on a whiteboard. THAT is the end,
STRAY Thoughts
I know they were a family, but there were SO MANY blondes in this movie.
The snow here was REAL! Too bad this wasn’t a Christmas movie.
