Synopsis (via Lifetime)
A divorced woman finds sexual liberation through online dating.
Thoughts
The movie begins with a parental disclaimer. HOW SEXY IS THIS MOVIE?
We meet Delaine, who is a recently divorced single mother. She is busy raising her two kids and having phone sex.
The movie flashbacks, and we see Delaine’s marriage to Robert fall apart. He is an asshole and cheats on her and then BLAMES it on her. Delaine starts having more sex with her husband to save her marriage. He tells her that he isn’t attracted to her and suggests she should get breast implants. (WTF!) When she gets an injured hip, her friend (Hali) recommends acupuncture. Graham is a handsome shoulder to cry on. Then a shoulder to grab onto when they make out and have office sex. They start a full-blown affair.
Robert and Delanie continue to argue and finally get divorced. This divorce talk is dragged out and not needed because it is in the bio. Just let them be divorced and get to the sexy times that the title promises.
Finally, we get some online dating! Delanie and Hali look through profiles. They set up a date; when Delanie gets stood up, she goes to Graham’s house and begs him to let her in. He has stopped talking to her, I guess. Also, Robert is dating another woman and has knocked her up.
Dejected, Delanie gets a message on her dating profile from The Duke. The Duke wants to create alpha females and is into some BDSM. She sends the kids away and then calls The Duke. He asks her to describe what she is wearing and spews his philosophy on sex. He wants her to be empowered and sexual if she wants to. Delanie strips in front of a window and feels free.
Then she goes on a date with a much younger man, Payton, and feels powerful. They go to a sex club or something. Cue a blindfolded sex scene with the hunk. They end up dating for three months, and he gifts her some earrings. They are cute together, but things can’t get more serious because Delanie doesn’t want Payton to meet her kids or be in a serious relationship with a twenty-four-year-old.
The Duke still messages Delanie and includes his picture, and invites her to stay with him for Thanksgiving? A car picks her up and takes her to a beautiful beach house. When the Duke arrives, he gives her a tour, and the bedroom is another story. It has pictures of women in bondage and red curtains. The Duke watches Delanie undressing in front of him while smirking. He tells her to take off her panties and demands that she does not wear underwear while they are together. Then they go to dinner and talk like a regular date. The Duke talks about being a feminist and his kinks.
Back at home, The Duke commands Delanie to call him sir, and ignores her. Then he tells her that she will have to ask for permission to do anything. She is his sub, and he is the dom. If she disobeys him, he will spank her and then take her for a walk on a chain through the neighborhood. They have a lot of sex. (Strong male backs and thrusting here.) Delanie realizes that she is ready for a relationship and thanks to The Duke for helping her find herself and her sexual power.
Delanie starts her own Christmas decorating business and reconnects with Robert, but not romantically. Delanie is okay being single, and when she stops looking, she has a meet-cute with a stranger in a store. He gives her his business card. Delanie doesn’t need no man and is happy being on her own.
Side Note
The movie had a strange tone. Was it being 50 Shade of Gray or a sappy TV movie? I wish it had picked one or the other.
