Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Pregnant Emily bonds quickly with her pregnant neighbor Kelly, but Kelly is faking it and plans to steal Emily’s baby. Elisabeth Harnois, Anna Van Hooft, Ryan S. Williams star. (2017)

Thoughts

The movie starts with a pregnant woman holding an old lady in a basement.

Cut to Emily and Susan talking about babies. Emily has been trying to get pregnant with her husband Pete for a while. So long, in fact, that Pete has withdrawn from the marriage and baby journey. (Their relationship never recovered from Emily’s stillbirth.)

Emily makes friends with a new neighbor named Kelly. Kelly is pregnant, too, and they connect over birthing troubles. Emily is thrilled to have someone who understands her. Kelly is thrilled to have one on one time with the woman she has been stalking for months.

After going into a labor scare, Emily is taken to the hospital, where the doctor tells Pete that she is suffering from paranoia and anxiety. Peter thinks his wife is suffering from trauma from the previous miscarriages. Pete makes sure that Emily is taking her meds and going to therapy.

Kelly suggests that Emily consider a home birth. Susan goes off the handle about how unsafe homebirths are. Emily calms her friend and tells Kelly that a homebirth is not on the table because she is a high-risk pregnancy. Kelly is angry and goes to the basement to yell at the old lady. Then she kills her with a fire poker.

Emily needs help getting the nursery ready and recruits Kelly to help her paint the room with flamingos. It doesn’t look good, but they seem pleased about it! Emily is finally ready for the new baby.

At the baby shower, which Emily was hesitant to have, Susan tells Emily that Kelly has no social media or online presence. She is at the party, though, and helps Emily when she has a freakout because she thinks the baby has stopped kicking. While she is in the house, Kelly makes it look like Peter is cheating on her with Susan. Causing Emily to become even more stressed and accuses them of lying to her.

Emily calls Kelly to thank her for telling the truth. Kelly promises to always be there for Emily and her baby.

Susan continues to look into Kelly’s past and learns that the old neighbor never had a niece who moved in. She tries to call Emily to warn her, but Emily has blocked Susan’s phone number. Susan breaks into Kelly’s house and sees that Kelly is wearing a fake belly. Susan attacks Kelly with a tire iron, but she is killed.

At a doctor’s appointment, Emily learns that Kelly isn’t a patient. The receptions tell Emily about Bridget, who used to be a patient but had a hysterectomy and became obsessed with the pregnant woman in the office.

Emily is lured over to Kelly/Bridget’s house when she claims to have fallen down the stairs. Emily is syringed and wakes up in the murder basement. Kelly comes clean about her planning and takes off the fake belly. Kelly admits to orchestrating things to make Emily think she had lost her mind.

Emily realizes she is in serious trouble when she finds Susan’s dead body in the basement. She screams for help, but no one can hear her.

Kelly calls Peter to tell him that she is worried about Emily. Peter calls the police, and they think that Emily is missing because she has gone off her meds. Kelly comforts Peter while keeping Emily in the basement.

While pretending to be out “looking for Emily,” Kelly takes Emily to the woods to have the baby. Emily manages to get away and hide in the woods. She knocks Kelly out with a log and tries to drive away. Kelly comes to and forces Emily to dig her own grave at gunpoint. Kelly tells Emily that she picked her for a reason. Kelly had a hysterectomy because the doctor botched her surgery and left to help Emily, who was in labor.

Speaking of going into labor, Emily fakes going into labor and smashes Kelly in the face with her shovel. She calls 911 and really goes into labor. The delivery is successful, and Pete is by her side. They are happy new parents to a beautiful little girl.

  1. I love this site but this is a plot summary, not a review with actual thoughts. I get there’s a lot of Lifetime movies to review but I wish there was more than just the author reciting scene by scene what happens and spoiling all the movies
