Synopsis (via Lifetime)

After a car accident leaves her boyfriend in a coma, April’s panic attacks return and make her life a living hell. However, once she accepts the kindness of a stranger trying to help her, she realizes that he might not be the stranger she thought he is. With a past holding much more sinister motives for her. Starring Christie Leverette and Cameron Jebo (2023).

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with an attractive couple, Patrick and April, walking through the park. April is the OTHER WOMAN and didn’t know it. Patrick lied to her and said he was separated when he was actually married. She gives him an ultimatum, and he apologizes with a ride home. While Patrick professes his love for April in the car, they get into a head-on collision.

At the hospital, the doctors assure April’s mom, Stella, that her daughter will be okay and only suffers a sprain. (She also has nightmares about her father leaving her as a child, which is random.) April wakes up and screams at her mother about her childhood trauma. (April is in therapy and suffers from Panic attacks.)

Meanwhile, Patrick is (thankfully) in a coma. (I say “thankfully” because I hate it when characters have my name in movies!) Susan is by his bedside and becomes irate when April visits and apologizes for the whole affair thing.

April works from home (I think her job is coloring?) due to panic attacks; nurse Kathy will stay with her for a few weeks. She blames herself for Patrick being in a coma. Her friends Marie and Lisa also check in on April often.

April frantically buys a bottle of milk in a cafe to take her anxiety medication. She spills her pills all over the table, becoming more and more overwhelmed. A handsome stranger named Jimmy comes to her aid and calms her down enough to flirt! (Oooh, la la!)

Jimmy calls April, and she thanks him for calling but thinks now isn’t the best time for a new friend.

Kathy has therapy sessions with April about her father leaving and later his suicide. April blames her mother for everything. While April unloads her feelings, Kathy interrupts, saying that she needs to pick up her dinner because she is famished. Kathy leaves to pick up her dinner, and someone attacks her in the parking lot. Kathy is ALSO in a coma.

While visiting Kathy, April stops by Patrick’s room and says goodbye to him. Susan sees April leaving the room and has had enough! It doesn’t get better when Patrick wakes up and asks for April instead of Susan.

Jimmy calls again and asks April to have a picnic lunch. (That he made himself! He went to culinary school.) April is triggered by the phrase “Live and Learn, right?” She goes into a panic attack and runs away right into the street! A car (Driven by Susan) almost runs her over, but Jimmy saves her life.

Stella, April’s mom, is still ostracized; she drinks wine while watching videos of April as a child and writes her daughter emails begging for forgiveness.

April enjoys more lunches with Jimmy, and her friends are suspicious. Marie and Lisa look into Jimmy’s background. They should be looking because he ALMOST drugs April during a pasta lunch. It is interrupted by a guest at the door, April’s mom. Stella crashes the date and unknowingly stops Jimmy’s shady behavior.

Jimmy insists he is cool with taking things slow with April, but he buys her flowers and sets up a romantic movie night. He is pulling out all the stops, which seems to be working. In reality, he is just looking for another chance to drug April while she is alone.

He does eventually drug her and carries April up to bed. Then Jimmy grabs a kitchen knife and slowly walks upstairs, and stands over the bed. Jimmy struggles to follow through and walks back downstairs to sleep on the couch.

Marie stops by and drops off some papers for April. She takes the opportunity to question Jimmy. His answer does not satisfy her, and she follows him while driving to “cooking school.” He goes to Susan’s house and is totally caught.

Susan hired Jimmy to kill April and stage it as a suicide. In exchange, he will receive money, tuition, and rent. Oh, AND Jimmy is Patrick’s half-brother. Jimmy tells Susan that he is in love with April, and she kicks him out. Marie CONTINUES to follow him around town. (She might be the most dedicated friend I’ve seen in a Lifetime Movie in a while.)

While Jimmy takes a shower, Marie attempts to break into his house. (Somehow, we do not get shirtless Cameron Jebo?!?!) Susan catches Marie and holds her at gunpoint in Jimmy’s house. Marie sees a picture of Patrick and realizes what is going on, so Susan calmly kills her and covers up the murder. (She also sets it up to frame Jimmy as blackmail.)

Jimmy is freaked out and rushes over to April. She misreads his signals and kisses him. He tells her that he wants to make sure she is safe but doesn’t explain why.

The next day, April wraps up the whole storyline with her mother/father drama. Stella explains that the father was abusive and had a restraining order when he left. Stella tells April that she is her favorite season. (April isn’t a season, it is a month!)

Patrick dies, and Susan becomes unhinged by grief when she gets the call. She calls Jimmy and tells him they need to honor Patrick and finish what they started. Jimmy refuses to cooperate. Leaving Susan to do the dirty work.

April and Lisa become worried about Marie not returning their calls. Susan texts to let April know she a) sucks and b) Patrick is dead.

Jimmy comes clean about everything to Lisa and April. He is interrupted by a gun-wielding Susan. Susan shoots Lisa to show she means business. There is a knock at the door, and it is Stella. April tells her mother to leave, and Stella thinks it is another panic attack.

Stella leaves and then comes through the backdoor. She struggles with Susan over the gun; it goes off and hits Jimmy. April takes Susan out with a vase to save her mother.

Later, April reads a letter Jimmy wrote from jail. It is the 17th one!!!!
