When a woman ends her relationship with her latest boyfriend, a home security expert who installed her smart home system, he continues to harass her until she files a restraining order that pushes him over the edge. He then hacks into her network and makes her and her daughter a prisoner in their own home. Stars Natalie Brown, and Anwen O’Driscoll (2023).
Recap/Wine Thoughts.
The movie begins in an affluent sub-division, where a mother and daughter go about their morning routine. Harper rushes off to school, and the mother is left home alone, where she is attacked by an intruder with a mask and a bunch of arm tattoos. She manages to fight off the intruder and report the home invasion.

The mother decides to move to a new neighborhood and happens to buy a smart home as part of a Beta test. Cameras have infrared cameras and tops-of-the-line doors and windows powered by an AI named Soteria. The creator, Devin, and his partner, Wesley, will be helping them get settled. Harper isn’t impressed and thinks the whole thing is creepy. Harper tells Wesley what she thinks, and he tries to sell her on it but is unsuccessful. Later, Wesley shows Harper how to loop the camera and asks her out on a date. This is SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL!

The mother gets a new job thanks to her friend from college. He invites her to play golf with him and apologizes for the break-in. He then invites her to get coffee because, in this movie, there are no boundaries!

Wesley calls Harper to hang out, and she invites her friend Nikko to join them. They chill by the pool while the cameras are on a loop. Harper thinks she is REALLY smart, but Mom gets a text from school about Harper skipping school. The loop doesn’t work on the pool camera, and Mom knows what is up. She rushes home to confront Wesley. He lies and says he is showing Harper how to work the pool.

In the middle of the night, the smart home turns on the stove and boils a pot left on the stove, almost causing a fire. Harper and Laya(We get a name at the first act break.) rush to see what is burning and brush it off as a Smart House glitch. (Really is, is Wesley getting REVENGE.) Wesley gets fired from his job for his misconduct, and when he does, we notice that his arms are full of tattoos.

Devin stops by to fix the glitch and bring Laya a new pan. He apologizes for Wesley’s behavior and assures her that it has been taken care of.
Laya has to deal with more issues with Harper. Harper gets into a fight with a popular girl over some heart-shaped sunglasses. Laya comes to school to check on her daughter but misses that Wesley is there. Wesley keeps trying to hang out with Harper and gives her more tips on outsmarting her smart home.

Even though the house continues to glitch, Laya moves ahead with her plans for a housewarming party and invites everyone she knows.
After a long work day, Laya takes her friend Oscar home for some “coffee and brownies.” They make out and are caught by Harper, who is annoyed. Little does Harper know Devin installed the security system at the school and shares footage of Wesley and Harper canoodling.

Davin takes care of Wesley by taking over his car controls while driving and turning up the music to cause a fatal car accident.
At the housewarming party, a co-worker named PATRICK gets trashed and makes fun of the smart home. (Seems like something I would do.) Devin is not impressed with his demeaning behavior. He also becomes jealous of Oscar, another tech entrepreneur. (Who looks pretty interested in the steam room) Laya apologizes to Oscar when Devin oversteps; she decides to put some space between her and Devin.

The plan doesn’t work because Devin continually watches her and stops by uninvited. Laya hears about Wesley’s accident and apologizes to Devin for losing his co-worker. He doesn’t seem too upset and is more interested in his security system. Laya asks him to check things remotely, and he no longer comes to her house. Devin calls her a liar and grabs her arm, accusing her of stealing his intellectual property with Oscar. Laya tries to have Solteria call 911, but Devin cancels and leaves. Oscar tells Laya to file a restraining order.

Oscar goes for a swim at the house and later for the sauna. He gets locked inside and cooked to death. RIP Oscar. When Harper and Laya return home, they can’t find Oscar and are horrified to see he has been trapped in the sauna. Solteria plays a video of him screaming for help.

Devin shows up in a gas mask and has Solteria pump gas into the house, slowly poisoning the mother and daughter with carbon monoxide. Solteria plays opera music and tells Devin that she loves him over everyone else.
Laya overpowers Devin with the pan he gifted her, grabs the skeleton key to escape with her daughter, and calls for help.

The mother and daughter move out of the smart home and contemplate getting a dog. The end!

Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Solteria is quite the AI name.

Just started watching. My watching is almost always based on your Pour it Ups. First, how do these single moms afford these Lifetime homes. And total smart homes are absolutely ridiculous. With the daughter on how she feels about it
Devin….eeewww…..super sus and creepy!
