Synopsis (via Lifetime)
A sequel to the 2015 hit Perfect High. Hanna Brooks is the new girl in town who is looking to find her place and fit in at Lakewood High School, which was rocked a couple of years earlier by the shocking drug overdose of a popular student. Hanna suffers from an anxiety disorder and the move to a new school is especially stressful for her. While trying to fit in with the “it” crowd, she finds herself pulled between two boys–a bad boy with a heart of gold, and an alluring, popular rich kid who is not as straight of an arrow as he seems. Her relationship with them sweeps her into a dangerous situation that her mother Deborah (Sherri Shepherd) must fight to save her from. Nia Sioux, Ali Skovbye also star. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Hannah Brooks is a cutie teen with cutie friends Marcy and Fay. Her mother, Deborah (played by Sherri Shepherd,) wants to talk because she got a promotion, and they are going to have to move to Chicago. Hannah freaks out and doesn’t want to leave her friend and school behind. She actually has a panic attack. YIKES!
At her new school, Hannah has trouble finding her way around and fitting in. A sullen teen named Rob hates social media and is sure to comment on Hannah taking a selfie to send to her friends back home. Does he also warn her about heroin?!?!?! Yes, he does. Rob and Hannah are assigned to be lab partners.
The school has a lockdown, which I’ve never seen depicted on film before, and it is intense. The students huddle on the ground and are barricaded into a classroom. Hannah has a small panic attack, and a hunk named Dylan calms her down. The lockdown turns out to be just a drill; Dylan gives her his number and Insta handle. Then Hannah witnesses Rob and a nerd get into a fistfight.
Rob is an artist and does graffiti. He shows Hannah around, and then they compare art. Rob mentions, his sister is getting out of rehab for heroin again. He is a real Debbie Downer.
Hannah shows Marcy Dylan’s Instagram, and Maya warns that he seems a bit too curated. Dylan invites Hannah to hang out with him and his friends after school. Rose and Blake are pretty popular people who like to bend the rules to their advantage. Rose even has a fake ID and pulls the “I want to talk to your manager” card to get what she wants.
The popular kids throw a house party, and Hannah shows up in a Pink Floyd shirt. Rose gives Hannah some Xanax and claims that it is no big deal because her doctor prescribes them. Hannah is also drinking and popping other pills with Dylan, so it isn’t the best idea. Hannah has a good time, though, and even makes out with Dylan while slow dancing.
Sherri Shepherd is too busy with work to notice that he daughter is hungover AF.
Hannah pieces together the night of the party with Dylan and his friends while drinking in a hot tub. Rose is quick to pop out the xannies and share them with Hannah. She even gives her one for the road when Sherri Shepherd calls because Hannah is late for dinner.
At dinner, Hannah is busy texting her friends and ignoring Sherri Shepherd and her Sunday lasagna dinner. Hannah is hungover and sleeps in, and misses her presentation with Rob. Once she makes it to class, she bombs the presentation and panics. Rob is PISSED, and it costs Hannah, the art fellowship.
Rose invites Hannah over to her massive mansion that she basically lives in alone because her parents are always gone. They watch to ASMR videos, and Rose encourages Hannah to get a doctor to write her a script.
Sherri Shepherd takes Hannah to the doctor, prescribes her Xanax, and cautions her that they are to be taken as needed and can be addictive. She quickly goes through those pills and ups her prescription dose. The medication starts affecting her sleep patterns, and it isn’t enough anymore.
Dylan, Hannah, Rose, and Blake raid their parent’s medicine cabinets and mix all sorts of medications. Klonopin, Oxy, Xanax, among others. Hannah and Dylan have sex, but she barely remembers. When she comes from a night out, Sherri Shepherd gives her daughter a stern talking to. Hannah is “stressed out again” and takes more pills passing out in her room while drawing.
Rob sees Hannah spiraling and is worried. He should be because Hannah and her friends struggle to find enough medication to keep up with their high tolerances. Blake even goes into shock after going cold turkey off his medication. Rose and Hannah decide to start snorting their meds instead. That is a mistake and gets her sent home from school for passing out in class.
Sherri Shepherd realizes that her daughter is high on drugs, and Hannah sneaks out in the middle of the night. She finds Rose and Dylan having sex on the pool table. She runs home and screams at her mother again while freaking out.
The following day Hannah snorts more drugs and apologizes to Sherri Shepherd. Sherri Shepherd tells her daughter that she loves her but demands honesty and insists on going to the doctor. Hannah agrees but meets up with Dylan again, who asks her to keep their drug use a secret.
Upset, Hannah goes to a local cafe and snorts more drugs. She OD’s in the bathroom. Thankfully Rob is there and busts down the door and saves her life with some Narcan. Sherri Shepherd rushes to be with her daughter and promises that they will figure it out together. Hannah has entered a rehab facility because she was doing fentanyl and didn’t even realize it. Rob is supportive and Dylan is nowhere to be found.
