Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Michael Foster (Colin Lawrence) is a firefighter and devoted single father to 8-year-old Lily (Bianca Lawrence), an aspiring ballerina. After a video goes viral of Michael and Lily doing an adorable ballet routine, Michael becomes the most eligible bachelor, as women everywhere want to date this adorable dad. However, the only woman Michael has eyes for is Lily’s ballet teacher, Olivia (McCord). Will Michael be able to dance his way into Olivia’s heart? (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with Lily practicing the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies as her firefighter/Widower father, Michael, watches lovingly. They live with his no-nonsense mother, Anne, who helps take care of Lily, who is high maintenance, maintaining a healthy diet for her dance career to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

A dancing party montage happens at the firefighter station. I’m worried because it is a little early for a montage!

Olivia runs a dance studio and skips weekend parties to balance the books. (Which is basically punching numbers into a calculator as receipt paper prints.) Olivia drinks dirty martinis and vents to her friend Jordyn about hating the holidays and feeling like she is in a rut. Her business isn’t doing well, and her family wants her to move to Florida.

While practicing again for The Nutcracker Audition, Michael joins his daughter and calls over comically. His brother Noah films the whole thing and posts it online, even after Michael asks him not to post it. (Which, of course, he does, and the video goes viral. 750K views and climbing. The internet loves a single dad dancing with his adorable daughter.)

Noah talks to his brother about putting himself out there. They drink beer and eat chips in between heartfelt moments. I enjoyed this brotherly talk because it felt genuine and real. Noah/ and Anne think Michael should seize the opportunity of going viral to optimize his dating prospects.

While taking his daughter to see Santa in a barn or something. Michael looks at Christmas trees and is mistaken for a salesman by Olivia looking for a tree. She asks him to help bring the tree to her car but then they clear things up once Lily shows up and introduces her dad as a firefighter/Stud Muffin.

Michael stops by the dance studio, On Your Toes, to apologize for not having met Olivia before since she teaches his daughter the art of dance. He asks her out on a coffee date. Coincidentally, Jordyn shows her the viral video.

At coffee, Olivia admits to Michael that she saw the video and thinks it is adorable. She tells him that he should be proud of his daughter because she is a beautiful dancer and a lovely person. Michael opens up about his wife passing away from cancer five years ago when Lily what just a toddler. Olivia lends a listening ear and compliments him for being such a devoted father. Then she asks him to put on his firefighter uniform on their next date.

Sadly, he doesn’t and instead wears cologne, weirding out his daughter, who doesn’t want him to replace her mother.

On their next date, Olivia and Michael have similar conversations by a fireside picnic. They drink wine, so I LOVE that. They share a respectable kiss at her doorstep.

Olivia gives Lily the part of Clara in the nutcracker, and NOT because she is dating her father! The other dance moms are going to be gossiping.

Michael and Olivia have a romantic dinner and less romantic conversation. Olivia talks about defaulting on her loan and might be moving in with her mother in Florida to save money. Michael is caught off guard and offers some suggestions to fix her finances, but she laughs him off and wants to focus on good times! Then they slow dance in the studio and then make out.

Lily really starts having a hard time seeing Michael date her dance teacher. She acts out, and Michael realizes that he needs to be a father first and breaks it off with Olivia. Olivia is upset but more in a heartbroken way, not in an angry way. Which is probably worse.

Anne arranges for a girl’s night with Lily to talk about her father dating. They paint nails while they talk, and Anne tells her granddaughter that Lily needs to support her father. The next day, Lily apologizes for how she was acting and tells Michael that she wants him to be happy with Olivia.

The Nutcracker Ballet happens, and we thankfully don’t have to watch any of it, just the bows. Olivia slips out before anyone can notice her and heads to the airport heading to Florida.

Michael throws an impromptu charity event for the dance studio at the fire station. Jordyn sees the outpouring of support and calls Olivia to come to the firestation. When Olivia arrives, she is overwhelmed by Michael’s grand gesture. He tells her that she is home and belongs with him and everyone who loves her.

They kiss under the mistletoe! The End!
