Synopsis (via Hallmark)

When New York City painter Audrey Moss (Roden) returns to her small Minnesota hometown for the holidays, she’s met with an unexpected quest from her beloved late grandmother: find the owners of five mysterious gold rings and return them to their rightful homes before Christmas morning, only nine days away. In her bequeathment, Grandma also urges Audrey to team up with local private investigator and childhood friend, Finn O’Sullivan (Funk). From gingerbread house building to the annual Giving Gala, these two begin to bond over more than just their quest. As Audrey and Finn unravel the mystery of the missing rings’ owners, they discover there is more to their relationship than they ever expected to find.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts on a chilly rock beach. A grandmother finds a magical necklace that belongs to Finn O’Sullivan and gives it to her granddaughter Audrey. They rush back to the family antique shop and store the necklace in a secret dresser drawer. Audrey gives her grandmother a picture she sketched. They frame it to remind them of Audrey’s dream of being an artist.

Flash forward to Audrey, who lives in the city and IS an artist. Her grandmother passed away and left the shop to Audrey and her mother. Audrey goes home to help her mother sell the business. She loves it, but she can’t be in two places at once. Diana runs the other antique store across town and is super condescending and pretentious.

Audrey finds the old desk and looks in the secret spot. She finds a Santa hat and a package addressed to her. Inside are five gold rings, and a note from her grandmother would do; find the rightful owners. It will be a way to stay with her grandmother in spirit.

Kay, Audrey’s mother, tells her daughter to talk with Finn O’Sullivan. I’m not sure exactly WHY. Audrey and Finn talk about dating other people and why they haven’t stayed close. Finn still wears the necklace they returned to him years ago and thinks it is a good luck charm. Since Finn knows the significance of the Five Golden Rings scavenger hunt, he agrees to help Audrey find the owners.

One of the gold rings belongs to a Nutcracker ballerina; Finn and Audrey spend a good chunk of the movie trying to track down a dancer named Elizabeth. They find her, and she is thankful because the necklace belonged to a Russian Ballet Star. The quest inspires Audrey to draw a portrait of the dancer.

About an hour into the movie, we finally move on to the SECOND golden ring. It isn’t a ring; it is a key and key fob. They go to a museum, try it on a desk, and unlock a drawer with papers inside. It’s a manuscript.

Next is a bracelet with St. James on it, and they put together that a church burnt down. They find the firefighter who responded to the call and get the name of the pastor of the burned-down church. He sends them to the owner, Siobhan Thomas, and some weirdo with a crying dog answers the door. They move on to the next item. (Later, they come back and give her the bracelet back.)

I’ve really lost interest in this one and the plot thread. There were only five rings to return, so I’m unsure what happened here.

A Christmas tree farmer gets two interlocking rings. They were hidden in a part. She couldn’t get married until they were found. Like Rumpelstiltskin?

If this movie didn’t need anything, it was an arts and crafts Christmas tree decorating. That is precisely what we get next!

Audrey figures out that love connects all the rings, and the last ring is probs an engagement ring!

Finn and Audrey get all dressed up for a gala, and Finn lays it on thick. They dance, dip, and giggle. It is very dull. It turns out Finn is getting paid to help Audrey out by her dead grandmother. (That is quite a twist. Granny’s got Venmo beyond the grave?) She gets upset that he has been lying the whole time and rushes off.

Audrey starts painting again because she is upset about the fifth ring. The stones on the ring symbolize something and the note from Grandma says, leave no stone unturned.

Finn apologizes to Audrey for lying. He explains that her grandmother wanted Audrey to think highly of him. She asked him to keep the deal a secret. Finn just wants to be truthful. Audrey makes a 180 and forgives him, and they work on turning over the jewels in the ring.

Someone named Charlie is the jeweler, and he plays Santa at the mall. Santa has been expecting them. The ring was commissioned by Grandma; it is Audrey’s ring.  Audrey decides to stay and gifts Finn a sketch of himself. Finn is glad she is staying and makes out with Audrey.

The end!

Note/Stray Thoughts

Scavenger hunts are not my jam.

Don’t google Christmas Lasagna. You will be disappointed.

Why was everyone Irish AF?
